Steve Reich and Musicians - Music for 18 Musicians

☆ masterpiece

'music for 18 musicians' is the kind of album that puts you in a trance. the production is so clean and warm, and the mix of instruments all moving together while going in and out feels almost mechanical but still really human. every small change feels so meaningful, and not one part gets dull or boring. it just gets more immersive, hypnotic, and meditative the longer the album progresses.

☆ good

'eusexua afterglow' really feels like wandering around the city while high with your friends after the club. it's messy and fun. it comes off like the more pop-adjacent sister to 'eusexua', looser and less focused but in a way that works. even though 'eusexua' is definitely the more thematically cohesive album, i can see myself coming back to afterglow more just because it’s lighter, catchier, and easier to throw on.

disc two is more aggressive and noisy. it still drones, but with ... read more

☆ good

this album feels like a fever dream. the mix lo-fi textures, ambient sounds, and random little noises that make it feel mysterious and a bit strange. the production is rough and blurry, and nothing sounds clean or polished, but that gives it a really unique atmosphere.

the songs don’t follow normal structure. they drift around, sometimes soft and pretty, sometimes noisy or electronic. the vocals sound distant and fragile, almost like they’re fading in and out. it can be ... read more
