A truly arresting EP and one of j’s best works. Both the instrumentals and her vocals are raw and warm and a bit uncomfortable. c feels like a bleak night in a childhood home that you feel conflicted about.

The tone of folx's paratext and the discourse around it soured my desire to listen to it for a long time. ~MAJIC~ used to be my least favorite Patricia Taxxon project, even worse than her initial trio of bad solo albums. This, of course, changed upon hearing Bangers for Those Who Can’t and a few of Patty’s albums as Tedrich Lendum, but my opinion on ~MAJIC~ on its own has changed too. In fact, I’m a little confused why I had so much vitriol for it in the first place.

It’s like fine. I think making this a clean version hurts a lot of tracks, but other than that, I’m glad this exists. I see what they’re going for conceptually, and I think the adjustments made tell a cohesive enough story, different to the original album’s. The two fully new songs are solid but sound a little too much like The Scholars to feel fully cohesive.
