I went to listen because of theneedledrop and I was not disappointed. It may not be your thing but the record is very polished; different song structures and ideas; moments that you go like 'oh shit' like Boys at School. Also, it's nothing like her first album.
I've heard it a thousand times and each time I end up like 'wow'. I cannot tell something specific about the songs because the whole thing is a ballet that feels cohesive. It's Mingus' most violent and coordinated. The sound and idea of each instrument feels very clear. It's everything I thought was possible in jazz. In terms of my own satisfaction, I put it above A Love Supreme and Kind of Blue.
Heard by chance of YouTube recommendation. Creative, plays with genres; it makes you curious to listen to other albums from the artist. A little pretentious, which you can tell from the cover art, title and band name. Still, colorful and admirable.
