Reflecting on my previous review, originally typed out mere days after the album released, not only do I not blame myself for my placement but I am actually doubling down. This album is a masterpiece and Tyler's best work so far. It's so unique and fresh while still keeping the tone and style that Tyler has mastered over the years. I've spoken to people who think this album sounds like he isn't trying many new things and is sticking to a similar sound as his other albums ... read more
Said this on first listen and I'll say it again: solid 9. No more, no less (ok maybe a tiny bit less). This is my first JVB record but I enjoyed what I heard on No Hands and was anticipating this to drop. Tyler the Creator showed me how much I love dance music, yet I think I might like Hyperyouth more than DTTG. This album is absolutely incredible.
Production is where this shines the most and it honestly carries this album. You can tell there's some clear inspiration from artists ... read more
This album is so good I'm almost tempted to give it a 100. Either way, daaaamn. This has definitely sealed HID in my top rappers list. The way that he can switch his flows 40 times in the middle of a verse and have it sound as heavenly as it does is just surreal. Not to mention the fact that his raps aren't rhyming just to rhyme, they rhyme AND have so much substance. Every song gives you a different aspect of this but all of them, including the songs on the prelude and the extra Sun, ... read more
Ok I'm a massive Tyler fan so I've tried to stay unbiased here (impossible but ok) and yet I still really really like this record. I feel like Tyler is one of the most consistent musicians in the modern era and this is no exception. The album has one big theme: dance yo shit and enjoy the constant bops. Not only does it deliver on that, but it does so in such a unique way where every song fits the style of the album, yet they all sound vastly different from one another. Big Poe ... read more
Been listening to this album on repeat since it came out and I'm still in awe. Can't decide what's crazier... the masterful production or the unbelievable lyrical talent. Genuinely not a single skip, every feature kills it, but overall the Clipse duo combined with Pharrell could probably do anything they set their mind too. Definitely AOTY so far.
Didn't know music could sound this... fancy? Mystical? Idk how to even describe it.
