Seriously though I love the synthwork and bass here, but the vocal sample was honestly a little jarring. Hope the LP is more baddy on the floor than this in that regard
I don't get it. It's just more noisy snarky emo electro pop punk whatever. It's not even twisted in a cool way, it literally indistinguishable from what it's reviving. Very forgettable.
Edit: 30 -> 65 I guess it's well produced and sticks around a little. It's just the snark that doesn't work very well (at least as much as it does on wallsocket)
This was a solid return to form to Blake's old sound. Really hope he makes more tracks like these.
Yeah, I like GY!BE as much as any other AOTY user, but if I want to just vibe without having to pay too much attention I'm going to listen to the more straightforward generic ahh crescendo-core post-rock, and this album does it best. EITS absolutely masters it's old style of sudden eruptions of sound here, while also having some pretty solid and engaging composition compared to their other works.
Iglooghost fuses the eclecticism of Neo Wax Bloom and the otherworldly aesthetic of Lei Line Eon to one of his most engaging and cohesive projects to date.
Iglooghost described the sound of Tidal Memory Exo with a variety of made up genres from the fictional anomalous community he resided in during it's production; "Germ Musik", "Sporestyle", "Technonikore". "Post-Coil". Strangely enough, these are probably the best terms you can describe the utterly ... read more
Parannoul fuses the noise of Next Part with the wistfulness of After the Magic, with mixed results. It sounds like you took a dropped After the Magic single and then maxed out the volume until it started peaking. Maybe I'll warm onto this more over time.
Edit: 60 -> 70: I think I get it.
Edit: 70 -> 80: This is good actually
I don't really this project, honestly. Dariacore is just obnoxious versions of existing EDM genres, who's only novelty is in it's ironic, chronically online nature. But that only lasts so long until you realize how hollow it is, like a GIF caption that you laugh at once and then forget that it exists. Maybe Untrue has rotted my EDM tastes too much, grumble grumble grumble.
Kenopsia is better than Frailty. Fight me.
This seems like a stupid take on first listen. Quannnic is obviously someone who listened to Parannoul and Jane Remover and decided to open up Ableton and try to make it themselves. But as you keep listening, that's exactly what makes it so good. Frailty is defined and arguably bogged down by it's maximalism, it's electronic noodling and obnoxiously online aesthetic. Quannnic managed to (possibly accidentally) take this glitchy, compressed MIDI-gaze ... read more
Absolutely vicious. Like, it legitimately disturbs me how much Kendrick knows and how much he is choosing not to reveal. I'm no longer sure Drake can survive this if Kendrick keeps up.
In practice Drake will probably survive this but it's still a hard-hitting criticism of Drake's character and behavior that will probably become a heavier and heavier burden as Drake's career declines naturally. Lendrick Kamar wins again
I actually liked Porter's foray into the 'overconnected age rock music' of underscores/Jane Remover on Cheerleader, but to be honest this song just feels like a reversion to the overly sentimental EDM to his prior eras. And yeah, some of the bars are just...cringe, regardless of how good the message is.
Every song Jamie xx has been releasing in this album rollout (?) have been absolute blasts. The vocal sample on this one is pretty fun too. Forget about release date, I just crave Jamie dropping the title of LP2 at this point.
The handfuls of introspective dubstep/future garage projects that emerged in the late aughts/early 10s before getting crushed by the brostep wave have always held a special place in my heart, especially James Blake S/T and Untrue. While I still want to compose my words on Untrue, I may as well start my account with reviewing this one.
I think I can see why this album is so controversial compared to Untrue. Untrue has this warmth in even it's deep alienation and emotional distance. It's like a ... read more
