Bob Dylan 13/?
It’s been almost a year and a half since I last reviewed a Bob Dylan album, so I did a whole discography re-listen, and I now arrive at the 1973 DISASTER that is “Dylan”. To say this thing is bad is quite the understatement. I thought the last two Bob Dylan albums were quite shaky, but still very good. This thing was just awful. Now, this is not really the fault of Dylan too much; he did not want this project released, and it was released from Self-Portrait outtakes without his consent. So, I don’t feel too heartbroken to say this thing sucks. Bob Johnston during this era of Dylan was a nightmare. When I first started doing a discography review, I don’t think I emphasized that enough. Johnston’s production is really bad. This is probably the worst example of all. I can’t imagine it is easy to mix a bunch of throwaway covers from like six jam rehearsals, but Jesus, he really did not try. This thing sounds so murky and is just an ugly, ugly sound. It sucks that Bob Dylan’s first bad album is this bad, because yikes dude.
