this shit carried me throughout the latter half of my high school years. its not overly complex; quite the opposite really, reveling the simple hypnotic loops. but it's truly the atmosphere this record carries that makes it hold such a special place amongst ambient records. it feels like being a lone ghost in a seemingly abandoned industrial dystopia. like everything around you is constantly shifting and operating purely for the sake of retaining a routine. like you're walking home 4 miles out with no transportation and forced to confront your insignificance as several others pass you by. the vocals, chopped and altered, create for these uniquely textured sonic palettes that feel deeply representative of Burial's own emotional turmoil. almost acting as the soul of the record. and to have these moments of raw emotion worked into the rhythms of these industrial soundscapes; it really makes for an ethereal listen.

i will forever love this record.
