Maybe I was hating a little bit too much on earlier reviews, mostly in part to the overreaction to this album by people online - which I felt created an echo chamber that heavily inflated the score. I still feel that way to an extent, but I think I have a more balanced opinion. Joey is at times immature, he does focus on uninteresting subject matter at times, and he doesn’t readjust his style to synergize with beats. In saying all of that, he has an excellent flow, incredibly creative lyricism, and great presence for someone so young. This mixtape is the definition of potential and I want to revisit his follow up to see if i still feel like he never reached the heights that were hunted.
