The Joshua Tree

I decided to listen to this, because i am going to listen some classic alt rock albums from 80's and 90's, but i wasn't planing to this. But i change my mind, because on wikipedia page of alt rock, U2 are really important for this sub genre of rock. I always associated them with pop rock, but this record is definitely alt rock.
In 1976, Larry Mullen Jr. posted a note in his highschool in search of musicians for a new band. For this note, Bono, The Edge, Dik Evans and Adam Clayton have responded. In their first year, they were recording punk songs inspired by Brittish band like Sex Pistols, The Clash and Buzzcocks. In later years they started to do much pop rock records, but they still kept much darker vibes. They started to get popular thanks to radios in colleages and became probably the biggest Irish music act ever,before "The Joshua Tree". Their fifth became their moment when they became superstars. This album was inspired by America in general. During recordings band members were watching US films or listening to musicians like Bob Dylan. Lyrics were fully written by Bono himself. They were inspired by fame, his marriage, Bible and current situation in the world, especcially in America. There are few disses to Reagan. Bono's singing is engaging and works with instrumentation really well. Instrumentation is solid. It is mix of alt rock with country, folk and Irish music. Harmonicas are nice touch here. But this record wouldn't be so amazing if not Brian Eno. DAMN he cooked. Overall this is pretty amazing record that was first step for alt rock to dominate next few years. And more a fun fact. I was in area where Bono have written "With Or Without You" and in Cannes i have seen his hand in pavement.
