A mature departure from the more experimental sound delivered on Iridescence.
This album truly feels like a return to form for the group with the album starting with two straight to radio pop songs and later intermixed with the usual pop-rap style the group is known for. The main separating factor with this record is that post removal of group member, Ameer Vann, this record directly addresses the feelings surrounding that separation. Don't get me wrong, the lack of his presence was certainly felt on their prior record but felt more as a rejection of the topic where this record feels much more direct, especially on the track DEARLY DEPARTED.
My favorite moments on this record would have to be the reinvigorated rap verses on tracks ST. PERCY, IF YOU PRAY RIGHT, and I BEEN BORN AGAIN. It really felt like a nice throwback to early Saturation days with songs like STAR and HEAT.
Honestly, the whole memory of BROCKHAMPTON's come up is still a bit of a blur to me with it being so fast and due to other external factors..... Despite a bit of fading magic and the group essentially falling apart, I still look back at the music quite fondly and this very well might be my favorite era from BROCKHAMPTON.
