Charli xcx - Rock Music
65

Not going to lie, the first playthroughs of this song were quite brutal and I was pretty convinced of one thing. Charli had successfully completed her mission of alienating her new fans following brat and initiated her flop era. However, giving it a couple more listens I have kind of come around to it in ways. Generally, I just hate the instrumental and not much is changing there, but I have come around a lot on the lyrical side as this does feel like a free-flowing mind ramble following the ... read more

KATSEYE - Internet Girl
25

For a while I started to believe guilty pleasure music just really wasn't a thing for me anymore. I was fine with standing behind things I like, but this song has made me start to rethink that. This song is absolute cheeks, but I also kind of like listening to it.

hemlocke springs - the apple tree under the sea
88

Pretty damn good. I could even see myself fixating on the beginning of the end for the next couple of days due to how punchy and catchy that song is. I really love the creative use of vocal inflection all over this album whether in the form of higher pitched singing or grunting delivery that almost reminds me of old Nicki Minaj without all the baggage that comes with consuming her music. It could also just be me, but the closing track be the girl! gives me feint reminders of Christian pop from ... read more

Jack Harlow - Monica
44

If you were about to have sex with your ideal sexual partner and the only contingency they have is playing the new Jack Harlow album what are you doing? I personally don't see it being a deal breaker, but it also doesn't mean I like it. That's mostly how I am feeling here on this one. Nothing offensively bad music-wise, as a matter of fact, I even find myself kind of shocked by how decent it was for the most part when it comes to Jack's singing. The thing that really rubs ... read more

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper

Finally got around to giving this a listen and I don't know. I must just not be in the right headspace for this album right now because I enjoyed it yes; but, I really didn't get enthralled by this record. In general I just felt very isolated while listening to a majority of this, which I am sure is the point to some degree, but I appreciate the really ambitious effort here. My favorite tracks would definitely be some of the more somber moments in Godstained, Monday, That's Why, ... read more

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out

Clipse and friends crush a 30 hour road trip in 40 minutes with no one asleep at the wheel.

Aly & AJ - Insomniatic
72

Now this is more the nostalgia I remember when thinking back to Aly & Aj!

Everything on this sophomore project is much more rich to say the least when comparing it to their freshman release. The structure of almost every song here feels more complete with nice bridges, stronger buildups, and just an overall more complete sense of..... atmosphere. Buzzword users rejoice! Add on to this, there is a also a heavier realization of vocal potential with both singers reaching higher highs and ... read more

Aly & AJ - Into the Rush
56

Honestly not super surprised at my reaction going back to this album now. It is pretty much as I remember it being relatively basic songwriting wise, but with nice production and instrumentation that can at least keep your attention for a majority of the tracks. With that being said, you basically hit the peak of the album right at track one so it does detract from pretty much every song to follow. Do You Believe In Magic can be fun at times, but it stinks of all the worst tropes of 2000's ... read more

key vs. locket - i felt like a sketch
81

This thing is..... really fucking good and you should at the very least give it a chance. Midwest emo through and through with little splashes of influence from ska, pop-punk, and even more ambient moments throughout. I will say before I continue, forgive me for not being completely familiar with the lore of the artist. I just see an artist with rather low monthly listeners getting blown up on here and trust the sign that there is something worth paying attention to, and that could not be ... read more

Oklou - choke enough
89

The album choke enough is a great exercise in the age old saying less is more. There is a great amount of substance and essence to be found in this project despite the lack of a pounding drumline or a awe striking synth groove. This may strike the question in the listen, what is the point? If this is just an empty album of nothingness, why listen? To try and answer those questions I point to the song obvious. Isn't the answer obvious? Everyone is familiar with these middle of the road ... read more

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA
98

Like a feeling almost too good to be true, Eusexua is an experience that is very hard to define with one simple phrase or sentence. A feeling that has such a strong grasp over you, yet simultaneously making you feel so void of attachment. A sudden bliss that is gone before you know it, that is how I feel during Eusexua. Your experience may vary.

Beginning in a true blank space, this record starts with nothing but a loud thumping echo similar to that of a heart as it anticipates the raw ... read more

Latto - Blick Sum
69

How does one defend this?

I think it starts by going into this having your expectations a little bit leveled. I am not expecting lyrical miracle level lyricism from the likes of Latto or Carti; more so, just looking for a fun brainless track to nod off to for a quick minute or two on the drive into the office. This track accomplishes that well enough with it's bouncy instrumental and mostly carried by Latto's charisma. Carti is pretty mediocre at best.

I'll prolly play this ... read more

LISA - New Woman

Great track!

This track has this excellent bumping instrumental that really carries the energy of the song, rather empowering lyrics that feel extremely timely given the dominance woman have displayed in 2024, and great chemistry between the two artists featured all contribute to this song being a super fun experience. Sadly, I do have one minor nit-pick. If I could change one thing about this track it would be to get the artists closer together earlier in the track. What I mean by this is ... read more

LIL TAY - SUCKER 4 GREEN (MONEY)
76

This is the hill I am going to choose to die on. This is a good pop song. It is still fair from perfect, but if it were instead shopped around to your favorite pop artist you likely wouldn't be levying such heavy criticism to this track. The bassline has a decent level of groove to it, the song is well structured and paces itself well, and the vocals really aren't anything to be complained about. If anything, the main complaint I could level here would be in the lyrical content of the ... read more

James Blake - Bad Cameo
85

Originally gave this a score of 89, but didn't actually take the time to write any of my thoughts down. With that being said, I was a bit nervous going into this re-listen because I couldn't remember much about this album despite the relatively high score. Thankfully, a few tracks in and I was immediately reminded of the super spacey and floaty nature of the record and before I knew it I was drifting off again.

I really appreciate the duality of the vocals here between James and ... read more

RI WAVEY - SOAP
53

Nothing super impressive if I am being honest, but there is enough uniqueness and creativity going on here to at least pay attention for what comes in the future. This mostly comes packed into the song IPHONE RINGING which is a HEALTHY ass song. Very easy to write this off as mumble rap, but if you just listen to what this man is saying on that track you will realize he is spitting. Hopefully, that doesn't remain this artists peak though as pretty much every other song here is some generic ... read more

AmyReal - SCAMMERS VS GAMBLERS: MULTIPLAYER MAP PACK

Similar to user christmas hulk I have also ate two ice cream sandwich and feel shot.....

I also am rebounding a listen of A Crow Looked At Me with this so this definitely makes the mood go brrrrr. This is a nice re-envisioning of some of the tracks of SvG. I like how track 1 sounds extra crunchy and that nice stuttered effect on the backend is also a nice tight. A track that reminds me all that matters is keeping that money in motion. Track 2 might be more ethereal in this cut, but fuck that ... read more

Nettspend - BAD ASS F*CKING KID
31

Not going to really bother going in on this thing harder than other have done already. At the end of the day, this project is mindless brain dribble over some pretty interesting production. I didn't go into this project expecting stellar lyricism or anything spectacular in general, but where my disappointment lies is that this project is hardly even fun at times. The brain rotting gets its worst on tracks like Tommy and A$AP where mumbled baby noises are ever present to the point where it ... read more

Shofu - POKEMON CYPHER 2024
89

Very happy this thing gets to finally see the light of day. CTC really the villain of this whole thing after all...

Main takeaway was that it was ultimately worth the wait and I wasn't really expecting this level of cohesiveness when it comes to the video itself. The groups on this cypher were super tight nit especially in the form of Shofu & Kezura, as well as the dragon squad. With that being said though, Shofu's elite four verse was clean as all hell.

高中正義 [Masayoshi Takanaka] - AN INSATIABLE HIGH
90

At the end of the day, I really am just a chill guy who liked to jam out to some good quality jazz-fusion while working my draining office job. Staring at a screen full of data that starts to blur together and form a vision of numerical mush; the only thing that can provide relief is the blissful embrace this project provides. Light vocals and a roaring guitar help discern from the smoother and more melodic sections on this record coming together to make something that is just..... chill.

"100% agree that this album needs its time to really grow on you! I actually enjoy Dryland and The Fish Song quite a bit, but can certainly understand some of the apprehension to fully getting lost within those tracks. I think I may need to spin back on the album yet again and re-evaluate my scores since I didn't give Where Did You Go a 100 and it is one of the most memorable tracks off the album for me. Great review!"
