Really sad to come back to this one and dislike it so damn much. The songs that I remember as hits from this project are hardly hitting and everything in between is blatant filler that I don't really want to come back to, and honestly probably didn't actually listen to much when younger.
This project is full of Dr. Seuss level rhymes, ringtone era instrumentals, and underwhelming features leading to a pretty limp final product. On the topic of underwhelming features, this project ... read more
Certainly a nice project, but couldn't help finishing this thing and really leaving with this sense of feeling like I am missing something here.
First of all, the instrumentals on this project occupy this space between spacey, jungle, futuristic, and almost bordering cyber-punk at times providing for a very nice atmosphere I found it pretty easy to get lost withing. This is further aided by the smooth vocals and great use of vocal layering as well. Where I really feel this project start ... read more
Nice little track that is quite the showing from DYL going in a rather unexpected direction. To start, the instrumental on this piece goes for a more experimental sound with a lot of clicky clackiness and bonky sounds in the mix. There is also this really nice moment around 50 seconds in where the instrumental really opens up and gets quite vast allowing for everything to breathe. The vocals here are much more relaxed and feel quite fitting over the sound palate in the instrumental, but I will ... read more

I liked this project upon my initial listen, but found myself not really coming back to it that often outside of the single Sexy to Someone. I think a large reason for that is that the week this project released many were smothered with an overwhelming amount of great music and I found myself a bit lost in other projects. Returning to this, I would say my enjoyment stayed about the same as my initial listen, but with certain tracks just standing out a little ... read more
Extremely fun and energetic pop record that I feel me and many others were sadly just a bit late to the party on. This project really does have a wide wing span in terms of coverage containing some sentimental and personable ballads, funky grooves, crashing electronic sections, and straight to radio pop bangers. Instrumental choice is a great highlight on this project, but this thing would not be complete without Chappel's powerful and impactful vocal delivery through this record. You can ... read more
Really been loving this project ever since giving it my first listen. Might even be willing to say this is by far my favorite JPEGMAFIA project to date. Originally gave this a score of 91, but upon further listening most of the songs that were close to perfect for me have inched into that perfect territory with the ones that left me with minor gripes mostly staying where they were.
I really appreciate how far JPEG leaned into heavy metal aesthetic for this project with it almost leaving me ... read more
Woah that's a big disc! What is it 25 terabytes?
I had delayed listening to this project for quite a while despite seeing the overwhelmingly positive reception this project has been getting. Who would know it would take a random reddit user providing me the motivation to finally listen to this masterpiece. I'm gonna be honest and say that Magdalena Bay never really had made their click with me up to this point despite their sound in general being something that should be magic for ... read more
Tried taking the nostalgia goggles off for this one and it really just isn't possible. I don't know how I feel about currently having this mixtape scored higher than Rodeo, but with time I will go back and fix that.... surely,,,, surely I will fix that.
This mixtape did a really good job of setting a tone for trap music to follow after it. Leaning heavily on the super muddy and distorted production Travis is providing an atmosphere for you to get lost within. This can be highlighted ... read more
Edit 12/24/2024 64 -> 73: Again, adjusting the score because realistically I enjoyed this record way more than I was putting on. A good chunk of songs here were in my top 100 and I just mainly pulled my head out of my ass when it comes to scoring. Coincidence, Bed Chem, Dumb & Poetic, Lie To Girls, and Don't Smile were all songs I claimed to highly dislike on my original listen and all of them aside from Don't Smile I, at worst, am indifferent on. I do still feel that ... read more
Another day in the office wearing my professional work attire sitting next to middle aged men and women who don't know I am listening to the new Colon Cancer in my earbuds. They really don't know what they are missing out on. This really is a mixed experience, but more than anything I can tell how much fun this was to make. The amount of poopy and peepee bars on this project really would give Ice Spice a run for her money.
There is something endearing about this project that has me ... read more
Actually terrible.
I really had planned on just avoiding this project entirely, but then my curiosity got the best of me. It can't really be that bad right? No, it 100% can be as bad as it looks. Either this is the most blatant grift in the music scene as of recently or it is an extremely out of touch display of Ronnie overblown perception of himself. Ronnie is so concerned with people turning soft and spooky shadow figures in the background controlling society that he forgets most ... read more
We really live in the timeline where the next addition to the Slut Me Out series was a country version. This track has the same haunting effect of the Florida Georgia Line remix of Cruise featuring Nelly. Imagine listening to this track in a professional office setting and trying to withhold your laughter. That was my situation when hearing this track and it was certainly a challenge to hold back the tears while listening. Somehow this is the most listenable entry in the Slut Me Out series, ... read more
Well.... I picked a good week to take a break from the internet.
Finally listening to this has proved to be quite a challenging experience, but I suppose upon further reflection this album isn't as rough as I was building it up to be in the first half. There are moments on here like Temporary and Somebody Save Me that genuinely break into some deeply sentimental and personal territory and I feel that Eminem does a good job of dialing things in to make them more than digestible. ... read more
What a freaking experience! I will be needing to track down whoever suggested I listen to this project! This EP is such a reflective and progressive experience that really is slept on and deserves much more appreciation. Starting off with a super slow build, with seven and a half minutes, of quiet and soft sounds eventually escalates into a hard thumping jam season. I really don't know what compelled me to listen to this project right now, but it was everything I needed.
As mentioned ... read more
A precursor to the criminally online and explosive music 100 gecs would go on to present to the masses. This project is still a pretty fun listen despite leaning a bit too heavy into the distorted and ear blasting sounds at times. What I will say is that this music is quite unique in and of itself. Where else are you going to hear dog woofs paired alongside auto-crooned vocals? Not a style I expect everyone to enjoy, but something I don't have a problem vibing with for the short runtime.
I don't know what compelled my buddy to suggest this album to me. Maybe it was a morbid desire to see me suffer, or just a skibidi moment. With that being said, I think skibidi is a great adjective to define this record. The charm of this project wears off super quick and I would much have preferred it staying in the more rage influenced bag featured on the first two tracks. After that point, this project transitions into the most weed edible inspired generic rap cuts imaginable and if it ... read more
Despite this being my introduction to Hue's work this project actually comes a bit later in their discography; and with that being said, there are clear signs on improvement on this project as well. First of all, instead of just mainly a piano focus there is a nice inclusion of some strings to give things a better sense of variation. Furthermore, what was a presence of mostly vinyl crackle has now incorporated some ambient rain into the mix. I especially loved little touches like the ... read more
Some short and sweet lo-fi beats recommended to me from a new one in my streams hue. Overall, this project really does match the feeling of your typical lo-fi beats to study and chill to, but with a real understanding for what makes this style of music pop. Given that this person has only been loosely working on their music for 6 months, I would consider this a great start to their music production journey. They already have a good sense of pacing allowing for the tracks to breathe for a bit ... read more
Leah is one of the many artists who have been absolutely poorly handled following their presence on the TV show The Voice. Leah is a super talented vocalist in both her high and lower ranges and it just shocks me that more was not done with that talent. Granted we don't get to see everything that happens behind the scenes, I still feel this was a huge missed potential. This track specifically is a pretty good showing for Leah, but at the time time requires a certain degree of withholding ... read more
