Did not think I was going to enjoy this project as much as I did to be honest!
This metal-core project does a good job at interweaving these electronic elements, throughout the run of this record, without disrupting the general feel of things. This is also aided by each track here being rather progressive in terms of pacing. Sure, this project can be more than just a bit overdramatic at times, but that is certainly part of the territory with this style of music. For the most part, the ... read more
I will not completely expose myself here, but I remember this track from a particular Gurren Lagann video....
Most of the time while listening I am just waiting for the drop section to come back around, and even that can get a bit repetitive after a while. With that being said, the energy is heavy once the drop does come hit and the transitional rap verses are not anything too terrible. Don't get me wrong, they aren't anything impressive either, but they at least don't cross the ... read more
H stands for Hooligan.
It was a different time, okay? During an era of myspace swag rap this really felt like something unique. However, with years to let things progress the flaws in this track are glaring and impossible to ignore. First of all, the actually quality of the audio here is atrocious. Type of bass to rattle the speakers in even the newer models of cars combined with a heavy amount of static and crackle in the vocals makes for an unpleasant listening experience. Lyrically, it is ... read more
Another feel good throw back that just makes me smile at the end of the day. Jess Glynne delivers a pretty stellar vocal performance here and fits the general electropop feel of the track. The piano and string melodies are also quite glitzy and glammy providing for a very sweet atmosphere. I would once possibly consider this a guilty pleasure of mine, but now I am not guilty of anything. This song is a bop.
Will certainly have to visit the full album this track comes from in the future. For now, this is a very nostalgic throwback for me starting with a slow string build into pure drum and bass bliss. I always found the lyrics on this track to be mostly uplifting, but with a shadow in the background painting a slightly darker tone with all the references to reaching the end of your lifetime. Me and many other likely have UKF drum and bass to thank for this classic as I jammed it during many Call of ... read more
A personal favorite that has always been a rather divisive pick among the larger Asking Alexandria catalog. Carrying a tougher exterior this project feels like an alcohol fueled downward spiral wrapped in a leather jacket smelling of piss and vinegar. On this project Asking Alexandria sheds some of their more cliché metal-core tropes and tip toes into a more cohesive glam metal territory while still grasping onto their chuggy and guttural roots. The one great thing to be commended here ... read more
While going through a bit of a recursion of my teenage metal-core phase I revisited this project which I already stated had aged poorly. For the most part, not much has changed with my general reception of this record with time. However, what I can say is that the largest redeemable element here would lie in the instrumentals. This was certainly also the case with their debut project Dying Is Your Latest Fashion. This time though, the band is balancing out new vocalist Craig Mabbit and I feel ... read more

What an excellent way to add in more bangers and expand the lore, if you will, of Wallsocket!
I was ready for these tracks as soon as My guy dropped with its high energy and brain rot seeping from the seams of the track. The electric guitar interwoven within the dance section of that track is insane and makes for every revisit being better and better. Things take a slower approach on the following track Northwest zombie girl going for an approach ... read more
FLORIDA: The Album
I would actually be fine with this as an idea if it actually presented some deeply personal or unique to the individual ideas, instead of some of the most surface level tracks I could imagine. Featuring artists like the City Girls and BLP KOSHER, I feel that in both cases they are solely here for spectacle and am more surprised there aren't more features here. I was certainly looking forward to this album for one reason or another, likely based off the promise of cunty ... read more
Imagine dragging yourself through yet another Imagine Dragons record.
This record mostly just felt uninspired, if anything, leaving me desiring to return to simpler times where I could at least rock my head to Radioactive. Those times are far away now though and all that is left is this weird amalgamation of theatrical yet extremely bland pop rock we are so used to. The biggest departure from that formula here would be the closer Fire in These Hills going for a more dance pop approach, but ... read more
No brainrot just straight bars!
These kids deserve nothing except for praise for what they are doing over this track. Lyrically this song is super uplifting with each kid getting a moment to big themselves up on their own verses. Instrumental is super infectious and a complete bop. Honestly, anything that gets kids taking a stab at music I am generally going to be a supporter of, especially when it is so apparent how much fun the kids are having here.
Clears Kidz Bop no questions asked.
Before I get too deep into this, I can certainly understand the high regard for this record especially when accounting for nostalgia and rose tinted lenses. However, as I have personally gotten older my appreciation for this record has only died down. Don't get me wrong, this project certainly was shocking for the time and shook things up, but I just simply find it hard to ignore some of the more over the top sections to a point where a lot of it does come off as offensive.

Alnev is an artist that is brand new to me that I cannot suggest enough for you to check out for yourself. This EP is full of heartbreak, deep attachment, and a vocal display that truly blew me away. This project certainly has a heavy inspiration from the late artist Vincent Van Gogh with the way it builds this internal character up, but Alnev does a great job of blurring that line with content that feels too personal to just be story.
Speaking of Van Gogh, this first full track here is ... read more
I genuinely find some of the reception to this album to be a little shocking. While I do agree that this isn't the most compelling R&B project, let alone project from Kehlani, I don't find it worth the dismissal I see people giving it. At its worst this project can be a little generic even mediocre, but Kehlani certainly can hold a note and sing with the rest of them. The first half of GrooveThoery was actually pretty damn great and I found myself a bit enwrapped by the title ... read more
You are in fact free to do what you want to do....
This club disco fusion instrumental is just is not combining well with Paris's vocals. I don't even think the lyrics are terrible, basic sure, but not terrible. Hell, even Rina is really killer on her rather short inclusion. I don't see the vision.

Edit 06/23/24: It has occurred to me upon reflection with lyrics that Paris is not saying centipede.... I kind of wish she was ... read more
This track really came full circle not only getting the perspective from Lorde's point of view, but also diving deeper into that same vulnerable territory Charli was digging into on Brat. It really is crazy having a lot of the same lines come back, but with an entirely different meaning from Lorde. It's always easy to envision only the good things in others when comparing yourself and this song kind of encapsulates that. The best part of this song though is that after accomplishing ... read more
Please Please Please comes off to me as a self-deprecating radio track covering themes of trying to control a prospective lover and the reception from those around you. Yeah, the song is chock-full of corny lines and a repetitive earworm chorus, but I don't consider myself at all shocked by that given that is the territory for this sort of pop music. I think the song is pretty sweet and pleasant to the ears and I look forward to that damn, "I beg you don't embarrass me ... read more
Hell, I will break my cool looking even 1000 ratings for you lark!
Saw you recommending people give this a shot in my feed and wanted to provide you that service. I like everything you are doing here! Providing a slow and progressive build with these distant vocals in the background that almost make me feel like I am in the Mystic Ruins on Sonic Adventure. There is just the right amount of extra elements thrown in whether it be the high and glistening notes in the background of the warbling ... read more
I have found my words.... It may have taken almost a year, but I have found myself within this record once again.
This project is one of the more emotive experiences in my higher ratings providing you little anecdotes and stories to loosely pull from, but a lot of your own personal mileage will vary on how you apply these notes. Rather than catering to the listener and making this project tailored to the most people possible, Phoebe seems to instead pick the approach of being all over the ... read more
I don't know what has compelled me to keep revisit this project in between other listens, but there is something so deeply intoxicating about this record. Despite me still having my reservations with this record, there is a certain degree of respect I hold for people being so distinctly and unapologetically themselves. If I am going to give praise to Mommy XCX for this I have to at least be consistent here.
This project is dirty. Like really freaking dirty, downright disgusting even. ... read more
