In the spirit of 1000 ratings, and just because the number looks pretty, I decided I would take this opportunity to go back and elaborate on some previous reviews of mine that deserved more. TOTEP certainly fits that criteria. If you are at all curious what my original review was I will have it at the bottom of this re-review.
This short EP from Kero Kero Bonito has and may likely remain to be my favorite project from the group. I love the subversion of expectations throughout the project ... read more
Due to being super indecisive I decided to leave it up to my significant other to decide what I use for my 1000th rating on the site. They chose their favorite Led Zeppelin album which to my surprise seems to be a rather mixed bag when it comes to reception. With a lot of people citing it as being out of place in their larger discography. I certainly can understand this sentiment with the heavy incorporation of synths and just a general sense of accessibility. I never would say I considered Led ... read more
Revisiting this one again after rating it since I seem to have some warm feelings towards it over time.
This project starts with a really strong energy in the first two tracks not taking its foot of the gas for one moment. The chant in the background of the intro track along with the breaking glass sound effects are a nice touch to the high speed nature. I do feel a bit of a lyrical step down on The Thin Grey Line, but they remain flowing and the instrumental has a hauntingly chilling feel to ... read more
That's gonna be a no from me dawg.
The overly enthusiastic nature of this project is just not working for me at all. To the degree where a lot of these optimistic and party vibes painted on these tracks feels rather forced similar to an earlier artist Can't Stop Won't Stop. If we were a decade in the past I would not be surprised to see this style of music featured on a Youtube channel intro. I found the vocals to be quite stomach churning especially once you add the vocal ... read more
Not a bad listen at all. There is some good sound work to be found on this short project combining spaces of near emptiness with spaces of raw noise. This starts very gradually adding in distant horns and some more funky production before proceeding into this industrial and drone like experience. By the end there is a large peak in volume and this listen becomes an all consuming experience. I would even go to wager there is the slightest influence of artists like Black Midi here.
You got some real dedicated fans out there Lil Chilly!
Had a viewer on today's stream request I give this a listen and had been sitting on this for a while. As others have mentioned your versatility is quite commendable with this production serving as a major stand out to me. Even during moments where I found some of the lyrical content harder to relate to the production was always catching my ear. The stuttering on feather was crazy on the first listen and I loved the soul-like intro of ... read more
You would likely not guess right out the gate that synth-punk is a fitting genre for this album, but by track 4 you will be more than convinced. This record has elements of punk, synth-pop, breakcore, indie rock, and the experimentation simply does not stop there. I smell influences of Snow Strippers, Jane Remover (likely due to recent listening), and Beastie Boys, but the influence is very much at a surface level as this project twists those influences into their own distinct style.

Let's go back to the mines. The children yearn for the mines.
Re-visiting this experience without the context of the actual game around it is certainly a very interesting experience. It provides such a calming and relaxing atmosphere that leaves time for deep reflection. I expected this album to potentially put me into a soft dream state and possibly even cause me to clock out, but surprisingly it didn't. I just felt at peace.

Had the artist request I listen to this track on stream and was thoroughly blown away by how pretty this track sounds. For a song produced in bandlab it just goes to show that you don't need the most impressive tools to make something really beautiful, just the talent to pull it off. The sense of progression on this track is great leaving room for sparse slower moments as well as climactic builds that provide a nice embrace for the listener. The influence is worn on the sleeves, but distinct ... read more
Maybe I am just hearing a different record than you guys. The psychedelic nature of this project I found to be rather smothering and yet still a smooth listening experience. I also enjoy the softer vocal tone throughout the project as it feels very fitting for the instrumental style. There are a few moments like Weekend Run that didn't complete wow me, or the aptly named closing track "Drag" that really does drag on a little longer than needed. However, I still found my self overall ... read more
Forgive me for taking so long to get around to giving this a listen. This song instrumentally has a nice thumping presence to it with these hard hitting drums and super deep bass. Flow-wise I am getting a bit of influence from clipping while listening specifically rapper Daveed's delivery, Despite picking up on this similarity these is an element of charisma to this that makes it unique enough on it's own. Lyrically, this song is definitely giving some natural born hustler vibes which isn't ... read more
Frailty is truly a whole entire experience of a listen. Combining elements of breakcore, hyper-pop, pop-punk, and many other styles this record covers a extremely diverse range of sounds while still feeling like a super tight nit record. Covering topics of self worth, personal desire, and growth the soundscape of this project really aids to the theme by incorporating this chaotic nature that is reflective of one mental processes during these transitional periods. What I really can commend this ... read more

Girl with Basket of Fruit paints a very horrific setting throughout it's 9 tracks making you feel as if you are in some place far removed from society where any form are rules are absent. The first two tracks provide this torture filled atmosphere and lines like, "photos of her jerking it too mush" leave a disgusting ... read more
Whether it is with his instrumentals or his voice Mk.gee is someone who can definitely pull you in with a sweet melody. This project balances a mix of raw funk mixed with sweeter tones all putting forth this very smothering embrace. If there is anything to take away from this EP it is that this artist is immensely talented and someone to pay attention to. There style leans on a good handful of influences, but the way they utilize those influences keep their sound distinct and unique to them. ... read more
Welcome to the club!
Utilizing a degree of raw vocal talent that many cannot claim to have, Mary J. Blige delivers strong, uplifting, and prideful vocal melodies over some of the most soulful instrumentals I have heard in a while. Specifically, the track I Love You had my jaw sitting on the floor as this instrumental sends shivers straight down my spine. However, where I know this instrumental is from a freestyle from a battle rapper named Tsu Surf. It feels real great to finally get to the ... read more
Hmmm.... I don't know what to really say here.
I gave a majority of this record a second spin and yet I still can't find myself falling in love with it. I appreciate a lot of the dub vocals and bouncy nature to most of the instrumentals; however, the general pacing of this record may just be a bit slow or stagnant for my liking. With each track I usually felt myself thoroughly enjoying it for the first half then desiring more after that.
There were still great moments on this record though. ... read more
I will go out and just flat out admit that I have never frequented much of Nina Simone's music. I was familiar with her work prior to this listen due to the numerous sampling of her music present in modern music, but this was a refreshingly new experience for me. Nina's vocal tone is super distinct and honestly unlike much I have heard before. The two big tracks here I Put A Spell On You and Feeling Good are great spots to dip your feet, but I found myself absolutely loving moments like the ... read more
Apple delivering the interesting picks going for the deluxe of The Fame Monster honestly makes a lot of sense as the additions here are some of the more consistent tracks of the bunch. Don't get me wrong there are of course a handful of anthemic classic tracks right out the gate in the form of Just Dance, LoveGame, Paparazzi, and Poker Face. Each of these tracks mentioned were completely unavoidable when Gaga hit the scene. However, it cannot be understated how Bad Romance is just on a ... read more
Only covering the deluxe tracks here. Feeling I will also need to let these tracks grow on me as well, but generally some warmly welcomed additions to an already spectacular album.
Hello goodbye is a cute little track featuring some nice synths and an overall bouncy vibe to it. The repetition of "hello" also becomes pretty infectious by the end of the song. Where this track really picks up is in the final minute of the track. Consider this a sort of antisocial anthem.
