I feel like I have to give this album the most neutral rating possible, considering I had the most neutral reaction to it possible.
This 80's throwback thing going on with a lot of rock today can be great, but in this case it just led to the most generic, boring sound possible, that made me think Weezer's Black Album and Bon Jovi on track one, an impression you don't really wanna leave on me..
I didn't necessarily have high expectations for this record, considering I haven't really enjoyed a Killers projects since 2006's Sam's Town 14 years ago, however, I thought 2017's Wonderful Wonderful was pretty decent, so i figured I'd give Imploding the Mirage a fair shot, however, what I got was a bunch of unimaginative mass appeal tracks that scream soulless.
It's not like any of the tracks made me wanna puke, most were listenable, a couple had their high moments, like for example in My God, featuring Weyes Blood, whose artistry I highly respect even tho I couldn't really get into her debut album last year, but the bottom line is, there's nothing special about it, and I'm just glad The Stroke's album was good, so I could pivot to that instead.
Waste of a great album cover too.
