I often wonder what the best album I have never heard might be. This used to be it.
The first time I heard this album, my immediate response was, "this is Modest Mouse?". Prior to this I had heard Float On and a few random tracks. I though MM were fine, nothing more and certainly not a band responsible for one of the greatest all time indie rock albums.

I stayed away from this by design--- after the whole farewell tour at MSG I could not just jump right back in. That and the Arcade Fire album Murphy produced is average-- at best (still disappointed). Very much felt like LCD was done and a new album was unwise and unnecessary.
Broke down last night and was glad I gave it a listen. The opener is a standout LCD track. The album is strong from start to finish.
Joy Division put this out in '79. How is that post punk? This is 6 months before London Calling. Anyway, love it.
