The band's worst effort unfortunately. There is still some enjoyability in the record however, but definitely only worthwhile for hardcore fans.
This album is great; insane, but great. The first three tracks are probably the most accessible but would've still sounded revolutionary at the time. However, later tracks such as Aumgn and Peking O make you lose all concept of reality and leave you lost in the state of limbo known as this album.
Really good synthpop/darkwave album. The kind of album that encapsulates a time period.
Good follow-up album. Lacks some of the raw aggression in theit previous effort but is nonetheless a good listen.
This album provides much more than a basic coldplay imitation. It's pretty good.
Soul coughing are a hard-to-describe band who gained moderate success in the mid-90s. Led by eccentric and slightly insane vocalist M. Doughty, soul coughing created a unique mix of jazz grooves, hip hop, alternative rock and electronics.
Their debut album 'Ruby Vroom' is, at first listen, both dislikeably strange and mesmerisingly cool. The first track, like the rest of the album, 'is chicago, is not chicago' features M. Doughty's typically nonsensical lyrics half-spoken over the band's often ... read more
A more sophisticated and developed album than their debut release, (compilation) looks to expand this band's lofi, duster-esque sound. The album successfully brings in influences from bands like hood and bark psychosis and comes across as a mellow and thoughtful selection of songs.

As well as this, there is also some experimentation on the album. The track 'empathy for a drunk old man' is a good example as it helps to keep the album interesting while still keeping its mellow summer evening vibe.
My only problems with the album are the sometimes off-key singing and occasional poor recording on the guitars. Also, some of the tracks ... read more
This album went seriously under the radar, I feel. This is similar to Thom Yorke but has much more to offer as well.
