Bright days for Bright Eyes fans. Kids Table feels like a continuation of Five Dice, All Threes, yet stands strong as a mini-album in its own right. The run from Cairns to Sharp Cutting Wings is absolutely stunning. Their curiosity and willingness to try new things, to experiment with ska, speaks to the band's longevity. And that's why I love them to the bone.
Obsessed. The arrangements, drums, violin, saxophone, trumpet... every element feels irreplaceable, each part feeding into a vast yet emotionally restrained narrative.
There's something about the opener that brings to mind Bon Iver's Minnesota, WI. Intimate, contained, and insanely pretty. I can't get it out of my head.
The way they toy with repetitive imagery adds a subtle playfulness. This one's a grower.
