Far more fun and interesting than their previous. Big problem I have with a lot of today's jazz is it's insecurity with it's place in the jazz oeuvre. The previous album seemed to drip with that for me. Perhaps the more approachable subject matter of fun, love, and dance make it easier to execute a focused jazz project.
One of the most unique folk singer songwriters lately. Her vocal control, timbre, and inflections make anything she sings pop. The album does not rely too heavily on those phenomenal building blocks however. There is plenty of space for beautiful instrumental backdrops, cute piano lines (and interpolations), jumpy guitar melodies, and simply orgasmic vocal layering.
