All Imagine Dragons Albums Ranked: Album #3- Evolve

Imagine Dragons has always been known by me to make generic and overproduced music. They've had some good songs throughout Night Visions and Smoke + Mirrors. I've never really enjoyed much of their music. Now, people call this a 36/100 user score, and I think oh it can't be that bad right? WRONG! This album had a good potential, but terrible execution. This is by far their most repetitive, overproduced slop they've ever made. The first two songs are like ok, we're kind of getting some where. But then, it all falls down hill. By the last three songs, it's incredibly overproduced and hard to listen to.

The album falls flat mostly because of how boring the songs are. Almost every move is predictable, and it sounds so inherently generic and stupid. There's nothing interesting about any of this, it basically just makes you fall asleep. No joke, my eyes were dreary for almost the entire album, even though is was played at close to full volume in my headphones.

Dan's voice is ok at best, and it continually uses that voice we all know and love from Coldplay's Biutyful through songs like Thunder, and it makes the experience even more intolerable.

The synths are not good either, and the at most good instrumentals are completely cut off by the insanely polished style, that's so polished it's overproduced.

Lastly, the lyrics are so lazy and repetitive, making the meaning of the album loud and clear, which is not always a good thing. And in this case, it isn't.

This is not evolving, this is devolving. If they wouldn't have changed their whole direction from pop rock/alternative rock (if you can call it that) to synthpop and electropop, maybe they would've been at least a mediocre band. I know it sounds I'm being a bit tough on this album even though I gave it "high" score, and I know I am because it's really just what it needs to hear. I would not recommend.
