At 30 songs, Carti goes on an impressive run filled to the brim with refreshing vocals, diverse flows, and fun beats. Of course some songs are misses. And of course one could argue that the long tracklist shows a lack of curation on Carti’s part. They’d be right to a certain extent… POP OUT and CRUSH for example feel like he couldn’t pick just one good intro, so he said “fuck it” and put both. Kendrick takes a step back conceptually to provide some much needed fun and uplifting music that’s not only for the fans, but for the haters. That’s not to say that it’s completely devoid of any concepts though. GNX is a celebration of how far Kendrick Lamar has come in his career as well as a celebration of the west coast.
