YHWH Nailgun - Magazine

this is like their shortest outputs, i love this band but holy shit i don't even have the time to enjoy each songs. i think this is meant to be played as a whole track every time you hear it lol. good shit nonetheless but i wish each track was atleast double its length for me to get anything from it. even the first EP doesn't have track as short as that even though there's barely anything going on there. the title track actually cutting like that is torturing me don't do ... read more

YHWH Nailgun - 45 Pounds

just reviewing this cuz the new album dropped.

this was my aoty last year!! ive listened to it on loop so many times i can't even say... so unique in sound and so incredibly interesting that you don't wanna drop it. they're all using their instruments in ways that are special on themselves but together and it makes the whole thing even crazier. they're all like 3 worlds apart in their way of playing and it's just so incredible that they brought that together. when the ... read more

femtanyl - MAN BITES DOG
70

here are my notes cuz im too lazy to write sometin

man bites dog

-mix between digital hardcore machine girl 100 gecs lip critic style and
-...pretty clubby classic electronic stuff as seen on the second track
-its a style that's pretty hard to execute in a good way but they do it so cool shit
-its a good thing i like this genre tho cuz that's two albums this year in that style
-i like the tempo changes in helltarget
-head up is crazy damn
-its a shame its so clearly inspired by ... read more

The Spinto Band - Nice and Nicely Done

i really like some of the tracks on there and like, it's pretty average music i'm not a big fan of the style originally but i just think they do it in a cool way. really catchy chorus melodies and stuff. highlights are the first 3 tracks, crack the whip and late. discovered them in a tally hall vlog (yikes)

Hella - Hold Your Horse Is
97

a classic. shaped my music taste a long, long time ago... i made a cake for a party to the vinyl of this album. it was the worst record player i ever had, the cake was almost inedible and i now hate most people from that party. good times

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
30

i hoped to not like it and hoorayy!!!! i hate it!!!!

i only really like 3 albums from peggy (veteran, lp and sth) so like im not a fan fan but oh my god this shit is so incredibly corny and a crazy glow down from his usual stuff. i liked atleast like 6 tracks on ILDMLFY but this shit ass album has NOTHING! every song with passages that i liked manage to get ruined at some point somehow and most of it is due to peggy rapping over really good production or just the instrumental itself deciding ... read more

The Velvet Teen - Cum Laude!
86

not at all what i expected but i like it. came from a guy talking about math rock.

sometimes terribly emo and dramatic at heart, the album stays interesting throughout all of its tracks despite not switching up style a lot if at all, which gives it a nice consistency. i really like bands that play with harmonically sweet chords and fast paced stuff (Maps & Atlases style) and even more in the context of IDM-influenced indie/math rock. at times the distorted vocals and singing style did get ... read more

Peaer - Peaer

a bit mathy sometimes and i love that. other than that it's really close to horse jumper of love, but i like it. it's a bit less dramatic and i like it better that way. also seeing how their later discog has bombed on aoty i'm thinking they're just like hjol lol #debutisgreatbuttherestisboringasl

The Beta Band - The Three E.P.'s
68

listened to the album cuz needles in my eyes is in dr house and i remembered the beta band from seeing their debut at my local record store and being like "they look cool".

overall it's alright. sometimes it's really unexperimental and stale, other times it's trying too hard to be experimental and it's just boring and unnecessary long. some weird and cool shit here and there, i'd say my favorite of the EPs was pitty pitty sound cuz it's kinda weird, B+A ... read more

Lip Critic - Theft World
88

90->88 ; one of the songs from this album played in my shuffle and i don't like the singer's voice that much

sadly i don't have much to say about this album cuz it rocks real hard. i'd say they mastered the genre machine girl style and its everything i like in mg but pushed to the max. mix is insanely good, some moments on this are actual 10/10 (especially in Jackpot, Talon, Drumming With Izzy and My Blush), i think i love pretty much every track on there but i do ... read more

Cornelius - Fantasma [Reissue]

excellent. really sweet , like if cream soda had been materialized into music. surprisingly fresh for 1997, some of the techs on there were cool asl and i think it's just a great gateway album to many genres especially idm and shibuya-kei; did get some stereolab vibes especially in tracks 7 and 8. multiple genres make the 17 track not get boring at some point, and the fact that it plays like a mixtape / dj set is also another way that it makes it a fun listen; it did had me interested for ... read more

Cities Aviv - EVEN COLDER SPRING
73

last year i went to see some of my funniest friends that i only see once a year (yearly event we do together) and that night i came back home and fell asleep to secret waters after washing down 10 pills of DPH/benadryll, had one of the worst nights of my life (obviously) and that was that. today i saw these friends again like every year and thought it would be a cool way to get back into cities aviv especially since this one just dropped. what's funny is that i was thinking spring was in ... read more

NAH - MORTAL GLITCH
87

pleasantly surprised by this album particularly. did get some death gripsp vibe sometimes, i love the production style of this guy especially how he mixed drums, most of the album had it panned on the left with crazy saturation and it really sounds cool asl. a bit disappointed by the cities aviv feature because it slows down the momentum of the album way too hard as nah had to adjust to his style and i think it kinda sucks, it probably wouldve done better if he had kept his style and aviv just ... read more

Coil - Constant Shallowness Leads to Evil

i don't even remember what happened when i listened to it except for tunnel of goats cuz ts was wearing my ears so much i had to flip my headphones like 10 times cuz they were deadass killing each ear one at a time

Pharoah Sanders - Wisdom Through Music
87

listened to this because i don't like the 20 min version of love is everywhere on that other album that much.

i enjoyed this album much more than love is in us all because, well, it didn't have to john which i didn't like that much cuz i'm not that deep into jazz so far and the first song being so calm kinda made the switch of pace hard to swallow. that's why i love this album much more: it's calm all along, it's in the same vibe. it's really peaceful ... read more

Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra - Promises

i feel like an idiot for not really feeling/understanding this because it isn't really that breathtaking to me. i'm glad pharaoh sanders' swansong has been received this well by everyone, but me personally, i don't find this album particularly interesting. i dont get why they bothered to make movements, i think the album would've worked better without them, as you can't really discern which is which and when a movement starts/stop. the strings and electronics on ... read more

Old Maybe - Oblio

cool stuff; for fans of Guerilla Toss

The Speaking Canaries - Songs for the Terrestrially Challenged (Hi-Fi Edition)
70

i think my only real issue with this would maybe be that some of these songs could've been split into different tracks. cept for Any Three Days which deserves its 13 minute long run. some of it is pretty basic alt/hard rock, some of it is more post/math rock. pleasantly surprised by che's guitar and voice, as eclectic as his drumming in don cab; you do recognize that it is his work. some of the tracks on this are alright, i'd say the first part of the album didn't captivate ... read more

Death Grips - Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix)
100

this is maybe my favorite death grips album/ep/whatever, and i'm too lazy to review them all but this is the only one i feel like doing. i don't think it would be as good if it was just 8 songs as different tracks because that would've just felt weird in my joepinion. i like listening to it all as one long "drive" of pure crazyness for 22 good minutes, + the transitions between sections plays maybe half of the note because OH MY GOD the drop to section C would NOT work ... read more

Croz Boyce - Croz Boyce
68

great mix of acoustic and ethereal electronics. doesn't come close to anything from pre-painting with anco's discog, but it is still a good listen and nice to know that they still got it after 30 years of career. loose structures and interesting ways of playing with silence/release. some moments did remind me of sung tongs and bridge to quiet's more ambient parts.
