Every time I come back to this album (usually stressful late nights), I am reminded that its absolutely packed with perfect songs and performances.

I am eternally astounded by how much sonic range Nina Simone has. Regardless of song genre, she will reach into your soul and ensorcell you.

One of the only voices and performers that can bring me to such soothing depths of calmness and in the next track, enrage and enlighten me with a critical rebellious fervor *.

First off, I love that the songs on this album, while mostly quite bare, were the perfect clay to be shaped into the astounding Live Rope 5 years later.

I am so used to Live Rope (after a ~2 years long love-hate relationship that currently lies within the definition of "absolutely fucking adore") that this album almost felt like a demo or a blueprint, and I'm fine with seeing it that way. Love the more electronic/experimental punk things here, unfortunately this album just doesn't enough for me. Regardless, I'm glad people enjoy it. I can't say I've heard many things like this before.

I especially love the lyrics and their mix between down to earth, peer-to-peer discussion and confrontational exclamations in the absurdity and ridiculousness of the perpetually revolting United States.
