Sad, spare, and beautiful, Blue is the quintessential confessional singer/songwriter album. Forthright and poetic, Joni Mitchell's songs are raw nerves, tales of love and loss (two words with relative meaning here) etched with stunning complexity
'Blue' is the best way to describe the album. Blue offers a unique view of a world still entirely relevant today. The album takes on both sides of the fence in relationships, portraying both the wonderful moments and the moments of sorrow.
In portraying herself so starkly, she has risked the ridiculous to achieve the sublime. The results though are seldom ridiculous; on Blue she has matched her popular music skills with the purity and honesty of what was once called folk music and through the blend she has given us some of the most beautiful moments in recent popular music.
A melancholic exploration of loneliness and longing.
I actually listened and wrote a review for this album a while ago, but I wasn't very satisfied with it, especially considering the fact that the album grew on me a lot since my first listens. I listened to this while reading a lacenet fic at 3am
joni's voice is of a goddamn angel and the calming pianos and guitars just make it stand out even more than it already does . such amazing and concise lyrics and singing packed into this short 35 minutes . so much so that it honestly felt shorter than that
