While her pals Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, and Laura Nyro were also pushing the singer-songwriter genre forward, none of them managed to stride the distance that Mitchell did here in a single album.

Sad, spare, and beautiful, Blue is the quintessential confessional singer/songwriter album. Forthright and poetic, Joni Mitchell's songs are raw nerves, tales of love and loss (two words with relative meaning here) etched with stunning complexity

'Blue' is the best way to describe the album. Blue offers a unique view of a world still entirely relevant today. The album takes on both sides of the fence in relationships, portraying both the wonderful moments and the moments of sorrow.

In portraying herself so starkly, she has risked the ridiculous to achieve the sublime. The results though are seldom ridiculous; on Blue she has matched her popular music skills with the purity and honesty of what was once called folk music and through the blend she has given us some of the most beautiful moments in recent popular music.

The one Mitchell album everybody dotes on, and rightly so. Lacerating perfection.

I'm selfish and I'm sad."

This is Joni Mitchell's 4th studio album, released in 1971. Although Joni was a well known ... read more

Joni Mitchell's lyrics have this amazing and incomprehensible ability to make me feel like everything is going to be okay, even when I'm feeling sad.

If River didn't put you in your feels, then you dont have feelings

I listened to this while reading a lacenet fic at 3am

joni's voice is of a goddamn angel and the calming pianos and guitars just make it stand out even more than it already does . such amazing and concise lyrics and singing packed into this short 35 minutes . so much so that it honestly felt shorter than that
