On first listen, this is easily the most focused, cinematic Clipse album. Pusha T, Malice, & Pharrell are at their peak for this powerful comeback album. I give it somewhere from a strong 8 to a decent 9.
2nd listen: Yeah this is AOTY for me, I’d say better than his other albums like Hell Hath No Fury and maybe even DAYTONA. Something about these three just bring out the best in each other.
5th, 6th, or whatever listen: This is top 5 rap albums of the decade for me.
A really sweet collection of songs that each have their own charm to it. Despite it being just her debut album she shows plenty of promise and potential.
All throughout you get a transcendent feeling from the ethereal instrumentation (mostly piano loops) working in tandem with Navy Blue’s powerful lyrics of acceptance and growing despite your struggles both past and present.
A short, but beautiful album with every song akin to a stanza, adding up to a grand poem excellently written.
The whole album from start to finish has this psychedelic vibe that makes you feel like you’re riding on wave traveling through space—alone, but at peace. Overall a really pleasant, chill experience.
At first, I kinda struggled trying to understand it.
But halfway through I think I started to understand this album.
Everything about this album makes you feel alert and on guard, you hear years of pain, suffering, and passion in the vocals, messages centered around the African-American experience in modern day America caused by centuries of oppression, & the hardcore instrumentation that amplifies the overall mood and atmosphere of the album.
