Oh fuck off. How can 'alternative' music be so unbelievably boring. This might as well be made by an AI.
This didn't really click with me. Very smooth, obviously well made, but I just found it a bit one note. At least three of the tracks open in almost identical ways.
Like a less interesting Case / Lang / Viers. Not offensive, just a bit dull.
Barrels between brilliant and infuriating, sometimes within the same verse. Think the vocals are really letting down what could be a very good album.
You kind of have to wonder what the point of this is? It feels like the artist got bored of it as they went along, its that uninteresting.
So often they seem to land on something interesting and then intentionally make it boring or irritating again.
Solid, overall fun album, but I kept thinking I'd heard these tracks before. To my ears is this is largely derivative of Glow On, but simplified a bit. Looking for something to surprise me and that was largely missing.
Starts out quite interesting but the second half of the album, bar one track, is pretty dull.
Really enjoyed this album. Got heavy Loyle Carner vibes all the way through (obviously with a US bent) so when I heard ‘Nobody’ that was quite eerie. Looking into the sample used, both tracks use it really strongly but it’s also been used lots elsewhere, including an absolute awful (no surprise) DJ Kahled track from 2017. I guess this use of the sample felt a lot closer to similar usage as the whole album had similar vibes. Either way, good album.
Sprinklings of absolute brilliance here and there, but mostly far too samey, too one-speed, too long, and the vocal style is largely an irritation more than anything. The good bits are a 10, the bad bits are a 3.
Same issue as the latest BCNR record, but less so. Too much twaddling about, almost getting somewhere and then abandoning it. Just feels directionless. 'When I Get Home' is an extremely annoying track.
There's some incredible tracks on this but just a few too many duff moments for this to rank any higher.
It really isn't that bad. Then again, I liked when Wild Beasts did a similar thing and none of the critics liked it.
Context and expectation are strange things. I listened to this straight after the new Arcade Fire album, which most critics have written off as boring and aimless. This one’s had a warmer reception, praised as another solid effort from two veterans of the experimental scene. But hearing them back to back? The Arcade Fire album suddenly feels light, fun, and full of life compared to this dull slog. I’m all for slow and experimental, but honestly, most of this just feels like a dreary ... read more
Found the first half a bit slow but the more upbeat, slightly post-punk back end of this record really picks things up
I've never been into Sleep Token's certain brand of beige djent pop, but thought I'd give this a proper listen as one of the bigger albums of the year. The good news is its not all completely terrible - just quite a lot of it. Tracks 4-8 is the most boring bland sequence of tracks this side of the last Coldplay album, and honestly some of this stuff sounds like they are barely trying. Big old yawn. No thanks lads.
