Outkast Discog Dive #1
This was my first Outkast album, and oh boy, this was a fun listen. It's smooth, it's clean, and most importantly, it's two rappers showcasing why they're so praised in the realm of hip-hop. I don't really think there was a moment where either Big Boi's or Andre's rapping really fell off, nor was there any moments where I'd criticize their verses. My main gripes were just Millennium and E.T., mainly just because I didn't like those songs as much as some others.
I must say, ATLiens starts off amazingly strong, from the smoothness of Two Dope Boyz, to the classic hit and perfect song that is the title track, to the slickness and laid-back feel of Wheelz of Steel. Jazzy Belle was another amazing track. I didn't enjoy Elevators all that much, but the album quickly picks back up with Ova da Wudz and Babylon. Wailin' was a nice, short interlude, and Mainstream was incredible. Like I said before, I think Millennium and E.T. were kind of weak tracks. However, this album ends amazingly with 13th Floor/ Growing Old.
Overall, this is an amazing album and a classic from the '90s. There's multiple reasons why Outkast is so beloved, and this record is just one of those reasons.
