If I wanted some mixture of post-rock and metal, bands like Isis and Neurosis are great, but they've made their own genre that's mostly separated from everything else. Deafheaven manage to balance the sweet melodic/dramatic elements from newer post-rock music with the rough sounds of metal. It's pretty tame, less than Opeth levels of intensity, but it's enough to keep the album interesting.

To me, it's not as impressive as Tyranny, but the sound is a lot more tight, and it's more consistent as a whole. On top of that, it's still an interesting record, though there's little that could blow anyone's mind.
Critics will never be impressed by anything that isn't Is This It/Room On Fire V3, unfortunately.
