If I wanted some mixture of post-rock and metal, bands like Isis and Neurosis are great, but they've made their own genre that's mostly separated from everything else. Deafheaven manage to balance the sweet melodic/dramatic elements from newer post-rock music with the rough sounds of metal. It's pretty tame, less than Opeth levels of intensity, but it's enough to keep the album interesting.
This band might be getting a little TOO sweet sounding, where it's bordering on corny at some points, but ... read more
To me, it's not as impressive as Tyranny, but the sound is a lot more tight, and it's more consistent as a whole. On top of that, it's still an interesting record, though there's little that could blow anyone's mind.
Critics will never be impressed by anything that isn't Is This It/Room On Fire V3, unfortunately.
hey..... it's called twin fantasy...................... and now there's two of them.................................................. danm
if y'all wanna quick laugh go and read pitchfork's review for this one

Really basic sound/songwriting style with some rambly talking vocals. It's really plain. I'm a bit baffled how this got so much praise, but hopefully this inspires her to come out with something more interesting next time.
I can't believe death grips made an entire album using Blender Physics engine, theyre so talonted
I never want to listen to this, because it'll destroy the image I have of Banks spitting horrible bars over really shitty lo-fi reverbed beats.
I know he doesn't rap on this album but... .could you imagine
Amazing album, great display of just how low a man can get... beavis and butthead are on it too
Has Crazy Frog gone too crazy?????????????????
Yes.
That's the best I could come up with, joke's cancelled.
I love the melancholic tone of this album. It has the songwriting skill heard on Emergency and I, with a far more mellow style to it. I'm not sure if I like it more than E&I, but it's close.
It's a miracle Damon and Danger Mouse managed to pull something like this off. The cartoon band was a neat idea, and I doubt they would have been successful as they were, had the music not been as interesting as it was. Definitely one that looks better as more time goes on.
I don't think it's their best in terms of songwriting, but the different styles of sound (usually rough garage rock mixed with indie pop rock) work really well for this.
It's a mess! A mess of different sounds and ideas. Even if it's not well composed, it's something unique to listen to.
