It's difficult to chart the Dismemberment Plan's next move; their boundless creativity is their only fence. They could turn down an entirely new musical path, or they could always revisit their equally brilliant old territory. Either way, listeners are in for an original musical experience.

Sure, it's hard to shake that nagging feeling that it's too early in The Dismemberment Plan's career for this kind of shift, that they had so much more to explore in their endearingly spazzy rock vein. But metamorphosis can be a beautiful thing, and like the butterfly retains a part of the caterpillar, Change retains a part of the pre-mutated Dismemberment Plan.

Entertainment Weekly

Change, the D.C. quartet’s fourth album, is full of nervous guitars, haphazard rhythms, and synthesizers that alternate between soothing (”Sentimental Man”) and screaming (”Time Bomb”). But it’s also endowed with sharp, sly hooks, as the group’s deft musicianship never overshadows their keen songwriting skills.

NME
TDP may not crank their guitars up at every refrain or dumb down for the kids, but they do deliver an exceptionally creative tapestry of homespun philosophy and grand melodic gestures.

Alternative Press

Change may be audibly bigger-sounding -- in a slick, professional way -- than previous efforts, but the new angle just drives the point home: The Dismemberment Plan deserve to be huge.

Tiny Mix Tapes
It was a perfect time to try something different and they passed with extended middle fingers.

If this is a change, it’s a good one

HOLY SHIT FUCK this is so good oh my god. This absolutely blew me away. Dismemberment Plan is a band that I’ve really grown to love over the past year, and Emergency & I is absolutely fantastic. It took a minute but it absolutely clicked with me and I come back to it all the time. The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified is also a great album as well. With these two albums, it seemed like to me this is a special group, and I was super excited ... read more

I actually enjoyed this more than their other big album. Part of it felt more thematical and in a styalistic direction I enjoy a lot. The indie rock elements only enhance the emo undercurrent of this record making for an emotionally and musically engaging listen.

Damn this one's great too! Not as consistently fiery as Emergency & I, but it still packs quite a punch. The performances are really strong just as on the last album, especially the vocals. There's some especially powerful singing on Come Home and Time Bomb. This one might grow on me too, just some really great stuff.

this was nearly a 100 for me but automatic was kinda forgettable and kind of a skip so it's a 99 but this album is still amazing. it sounds like their previous album emergency & I but with a few tweaks here and there. there's also some absolutely BANGERS in this like holy cannoli. and the singing is just as good if not better on this. might relisten very soon and maybe I'll see if I like automatic more.

favorite tracks: almost all of them
least favorite tracks: automatic (I ... read more

I love this album, it took me a bit to listen to it more consistently with having only listened to emergency and I. I think I like this album more than that one lol.
