RIP SLYME - Five

Wonderful major debut from (admittedly) my favorite band in the world ever!! I think this is the most pure hip-hop-sounding album of theirs and it really feels like the beginning of them finding their sound. It's pretty guitar-heavy, even before they started really going crazy with the genre experimentation, which is really cool to see. All four MCs have pretty consistently good verses throughout this album, and Fumiya and Pes both really deliver with the production as well. It's ... read more

I do understand why this is usually considered Fall Out Boy's actual first album. Definitely a better collection of songs that are a lot more polished, and Patrick's singing is such a stark improvement over Evening Out. That being said, I feel like a lot of the hardcore screaming on these songs feels pretty unnecessary and can sometimes slightly tarnish an otherwise solid song. But overall solid album!

Decent debut from Fall Out Boy. I think that it is very clearly rushed, and it definitely feels like a worse-than-average collection of early FOB songs, but there are still some real signs of potential here and the lyrics on some of these songs feel almost on par with their later albums. It's not bad!

It's a pretty alright debut record for MCR. It has a messiness to it that I enjoy, and I like the way Gerard sounds very young and raw on this album, but the compositions are really just not strong enough to hold me even in spite of all that, and the lyrics feel a little too self-serious for me to really be down with the kind of angst they're delivering here.

Unbelievably cool EP from Fall Out Boy. I am generally pretty fond of a lot of their pre-hiatus music, but this completely blew me away. The spontaneous and unpolished nature of this project complements the raw energy on display in these sessions so well and the result is a criminally short but extremely enjoyable little project from in between albums soon after the hiatus. I wish they'd made more stuff like this, but I'm honestly just so glad even this exists.
