As someone who’s never been a fan of J. Cole, I’m happy he ended his career on a high note with, possibly, his best album.

I don’t think it needed a concept, especially considering how the first disc, which is meant to showcase his perspective at 29, isn’t very different from the second. The tracklist could also have been trimmed down quite a bit, being bogged down by some unfocused songs and a few stinkers.

However, the high points are some of Cole’s best ... read more

What an incredibly sleepy album experience this was.
Coming off a pretty lacklustre beef against some TDE C-listers, Joey drops a forty minute meditation on his status in the rap game with a few allusions to some personal struggles and the result is a lame attempt at high-brow luxury rap (or "real rap... but still high art" as he puts it). Everything from the loungey beats to his delivery is toned-down and despite his brags about being at the top of the game, the lyrical skill on ... read more

This preluxe was dropped to create hype around JID’s upcoming project but to be honest if anything it will probably achieve the opposite since this is a regression from The Forever Story in every way possible.
I can’t say I liked a single song on here. Behold is just a generic trap sounding “banger” which accomplishes nothing in its two minute runtime. Lil Yachty is drowned out by the incredibly dull beat on Knew Better and JID drops some of his worst flows too date, ... read more

This was my introduction to Lucy Dacus and while I can acknowledge she is a talented songwriter and seems to be a really intelligent and likeable person, I also think her music has some shortcomings that make it, at least in my eyes, pretty middle of the road. I think she is lacking the most in the performance department: her voice is pretty but unremarkable and she puts little to no personality or dynamics into her vocals. When on top of this she picks out really one-note generic indie ... read more
