Marina Satti - POP TOO
75

given that p.o.p. was probably my second most streamed project from 2024, i knew that this was going to be fire. however, it's a bit less instantly gratifying than its predecesor. the highlights are scattered all over the album but then you've got a couple of songs that don't really go anywhere, they exist on their own simplicity. anyhow, pop too is still a quintessentially fun album full of sass that speaks for her ever-so-expanding confidence and sense of self-mockery.

Rebecca Black - SALVATION

if rebecca black has 1000 fans, i'm one of them. if rebecca black has 1 fan, then it's me. if rebecca black has no fans, that means i'm dead.

faves: trust!, sugar water cyanide, tears in my pocket, do you even think about me? and twist the knife.
least fave: american doll.

Oklou - choke enough
95

who would’ve expected that the gay that has galore on his top 5 favorite albums would love this? yeah, that’s me! however, is it up there with galore? i don’t have an answer yet since galore gets better with every single listen (still to this day).

as much as i want to give this a 90, the middle section feels a little bit uneventful in my opinion. i don’t know why would she put take me by the hand (love the song, kinda don’t care about bladee’s delivery) and ... read more

Amaia - Si Abro Los Ojos No Es Real
90

i’m aware of how specific this might be but hear me out: this album sounds like if nintendo would’ve asked fiona apple and “it’s not me, it’s you” lily allen to make a soundtrack in spanish for super princess peach for the ds with jim-e stack being in charge of the production. so yeah, basically; this fucks.

faves: visión, tocotó, nanai, m.a.p.s., auxiliar, tengo un pensamiento, c’est la vie, despedida, fantasma and ya está.

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA
70

i don't know if eusexua (the single) set my expectations way too high for the album but, after a couple of listens, the album feels... just fine? i can tell that it's an objectively good body of work but it's not what i was expecting, and i don't want to say that i'm underwhelmed but there's no other word that'd sum it up better. i'm hoping eusexua proves itself to be a grower but i'm mad that everyone is going head over heels while i'm out here ... read more

Ela Minus - DÍA

some really interesting electropop that, at times, reminded me of early björk, but her lyrics and melodies can get a little bit bland from time to time. i wish she’d put her more anthemic motifs aside to make bolder statements with her impressive production skills. that said, i can already tell that this is going to be an important project for me in 2025 solely based on the fact that i've recently moved to slovenia and it's become my go to album whenever i have to walk ... read more

Ethel Cain - Perverts
80

the whole concept behind perverts is morbidly genius. i was glued to my screen reading all of the genius annotations as i went through the ep and i'm willing to give her all the flowers for that, but there are some moments (housofpsychoticwomn and pulldrone especially) where the project felt a bit too drawn out. that said, title track should have a much higher rating imo.

faves: perverts, punish, vacillator, etienne and amber waves.
least fave: pulldrone.

Shorewood - lo único que quiero
NR

ngl, this hit me quite hard from the lyric perspective. as someone who's currently going head over heels for someone, lo único que quiero felt like a very accurate description of being lovesick. production-wise also felt like such a step up from "by your side", especially from the vocal perspective. it's way more immersive. i REALLY enjoyed it and i'm not saying it for the sake of being nice, i mean it! i can't wait to listen to the ep!!!

kim petras on her third debut album manages to strip herself from any personality that made her likeable before to feed, quite literally, the beast. make sure to stream kesha's brand new album, gag order. <3

faves: revelations, hit it from the back and coconuts (even if i don't know what the fuck this song is doing here).
least fave: thousand pieces.

Ryan Beatty - Calico
90

first of all: yes, i know i’m a week late to this and what about it? the main reason why i didn’t review this album earlier is because i had no idea about who this man was up until i checked this project out. i’ve never been huge on brockhampton –i think he was a member or a close collaborator of the group? idk man, that band is still a huge mystery to me– so i really didn’t know about him either, but i saw the album popping up in here and i thought it had a ... read more

yunè pinku - Babylon IX

a proper representation of how this ep makes me feel on the inside whenever i listen to it: ✧・゚:* ✧・゚:・゚✧*:・゚✧.

least fave: fai fighter.

Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good!
80

y’all, new gay bible just dropped!

who would’ve said that jessie ware, a sophisti-pop act from the uk that went under an adele-ish phase through the commercial peak of her career, would become one of the most beloved disco revivalist divas of our generation. before we get into this album, lemme give you all a quick rundown through her entire career: devotion was a really good alt r&b album and a great introduction to her career, tough love was just a pretty successful hit, an ... read more

ALMA - Time Machine

faves: the cure.
least fave: pretty much the rest of the album.

Shygirl - Nymph_o
75

this is such an interesting remix album. there are so many hits in here but there’s also a couple of misses that leave nymph_o sounding a bit messy overall. my hopes with this remix album were that she’d merge maybe the tamest parts of nymph (by saying tamest i don’t mean to drag her by any means. god only knows how much i love that motherfucking album, holy shit) and maybe pump them up to the next level, but apart from heaven with tinashe, none of the remixes left that big of ... read more

Feist - Multitudes

“erz try not to give a 70-75 to an indie girlie” challenge.

feist is a canadian singer-songwriter that, weirdly enough, i’ve known for pretty much my whole entire life. don’t ask me why my father had a physical copy of let it die, but he had it and, as a child, i fell in love with that album. i still have very cute memories of being in the backseat of a long roadtrip with my parents while songs like mushaboom or inside and out were playing on the background. i’d ... read more

Yaeji - With A Hammer
70

yaeji has always been somewhat of an odd-ball in the music industry. there’s nothing, to my knowledge, that sounds remotely similar to what she’s doing at the moment. the best way i could attempt to describe her music is by saying that she turns lo-fi beats into awkward glitchy atmospheres as she sings over them with her baby like voice. the end result can be very varied at times but, for the most part, the songs hit.

yaeji’s debut album comes 6 years after her debut ep and ... read more

Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven
80

ellie goulding is FINALLY back to her true form.

ellie was one of the most important artists in my teenage years since she was the first artist that i discovered on my own and that i went on to stan before I even knew what stanning meant. i remember being 13 on a vacation trip with my parents and listening to burn for the first time outside of a random pub on a tv and falling in love with it. sure, it was basic ass edm pop made for the radio but there was something about her voice that ... read more

Shorewood - by your side
NR

this isn't really my cup of tea but i see lots of potential in here! i feel like by your side has many good ideas but they could've been executed better. i'm not going to talk a lot about the vocal effects bc i believe that they were intentional but i feel like the track would benefit a lot from bringing them a little bit to the forefront of the song. lastly, the chorus lacks a little bit of punch on the percussive side and i feel like it tries to do way too many things in such a short span of ... read more

ROSALÍA & Rauw Alejandro - RЯ
70

RЯ is a very cute ep full of bouncy beats and catchy hooks. there’s nothing close to motomami levels of experimentation by any means but their chemistry is notable and i can’t wait to go out to a club to lose my shit to vampiros. i’m also really happy for their recent engagement. i wish the best to our motoparents. <3

faves: vampiros and promesa.
least fave: beso.

On LAVS's review of Demi Lovato - It's Not That Deep
"you kinda ate this up. this is how i feel about all of her music too but, to play devil's advocate, she was going through a lot of personal shit in the past and i believe she was trying so hard to fit in anything that felt current, that it just made her seen even more disingenuine. i feel like she is in a much healthier space now but she's still a bit of a faceless artist with an amazing voice for sure. i don't personally hear the brat influences however (musically speaking, visually it's just c,xoxo all over again). this just sounds like a safer approach to what adéla and rebecca black are making atm."
