I wish I could understand the lyricism in this album, I am in awe of the soundscape and musicianship. The album goes through many ups and downs thematic-wise, one second it can be cheerful and upbeat and the next it can be dark and complex. It features a brilliant cast of instruments and showcases the talented range of everyone who worked on this project.
The production exhibits many dynamics, being clean and crisp when certain tracks require it to be, and hazey and dreamy in others. I also ... read more
I surprisingly don't have a lot to say about this album. There are some fun tracks in here, iconic even. However, I can't help but notice how manufactured and almost corporate it feels, with its lyricism and overly clean and typical production. I'm glad that over time, Charli's music takes on a different approach, but this project just doesn't feel personal or heartfelt. Sucker is not poor quality by any means, but a large chunk of the album is filler tracks, and ... read more
I love these versions of deluxe edition albums, where multiple different types of artists are invited to collaborate, and they all take a song and add their own unique flair to it. I love, love, love! the production on this album. It's so joyful and optimistic-sounding. The beats are euphoric and blissful, pretty and sweet. They're consistently very high quality in this album. Depending on how you look at it, True Romance serves as Charli XCX's album debut, and it's such a time capsule of its time period, especially with the electropop mix paired with the lyricism and ad-libs. True Romance continues to solidify Charli's unique, trademark, ... read more
I must be honest. I may be a little biased in my rating, but I do truly adore Charli XCX's music. I am quite shocked to see that others are actually pretty disappointed (?) in this album, actively disliking it. It's by far not the best album ever, nor the best in Charli's discography, but for one of her earliest works, at age 14, it's quite solid. I love the general charm of this album. It's cheesy at times, but also creative and boundary-pushing. The album is juvenile, ... read more
