The additions here are either weak or good in my opinion. If ILDMLFY released in a state similar to this, I don't think it would be as great of an album. Disc 2's contents are fine. That's all I have to say, enjoy this album, or don't. Have a nice day.
Okay, this is more interesting than the first one for sure. I really need to pick up Pure Data or VCV Rack or something 😭
My dumb ass thought "computer keyboard" at first when I read the description. Yeah this isn't anything crazy.

A good noise release, what's this, the Merzbox?? After lots of archival material, Merz decided to give us existing Slowdown releases as a treat.
On the three-part title track Masami decides to make some beats again, creating something akin to ambient techno - it's refreshing in terms of the Merzbow discog. It has a really nice atmosphere.
The two tracks that are at the beginning and end respectively ... read more

This one has slower synth loops and fast techno beats. Doesn't mean it's any better than the rest of this box though. My suffering is finally over (for now at least).

The descriptions on these releases make them look better than they actually are. At least the loop on the second track is very different compared to the other volumes.

Slight improvement I guess, but also like, 50 MINUTES.

Those synth loops are digging at my brain at this point.

Well, I guess it is better than Vol 1 because there is some more variety in these tracks?

Now we're in 2014, Merzy decided to have fun with a sequencer this time. A synth loop plays the entire time with some not good merznoise on top. Just when I was slowly regaining hope, Masami crushed it all. Six discs of this???? Fuck this, I'm not even talking about this stuff track by track.

Uhh Half-Life, amirite? 😂😂😂😂😂
A re-issue of Gman//HJYUGTF2, with two bonus tracks - one taken from the limited edition of Lop Lop, the other being taken from the limited edition of Konchuuki.
All of the tracks are Merz in his drum & noise mode instead of the droning ambient of this box, except the last one which is in that style.

A rehearsal for a live performance in Tokyo, Merzmerz brings out a miniature koto and plays it with a violin bow. The description for the album doesn't lie, it really sounds like a junk guitar and stuff here. Besides that it still has all the droning and pulsating synths you would expect from this box at this point, albeit it's more interesting than the last few overall. In classic Merzboeing ... read more

Starts off harsh, that's something the last few discs didn't do! I don't know what I could say about the rest of this, it's just more of the things we got before in this box. The third track is short and on the harsher side, I guess I can say that.

Basically even more of that drone ambient noise from the previous two entries. Part of this was used as material for Sugamo Flower Festival from the split with Actuary.
The title track is also 33 minutes long here, there's this pulsating synth which later gets switched with a faster one. The second one also has some pulsating synths, it's more of a straight-forward noise track though, not really ... read more

Remember Minazuki 1832 from Insect 801? This is kinda like that track.
Droning ambient noise. The title track goes on for 33 minutes, it's nothing crazy. The second one is half as long and has a bassy synth.

After a short break from Merzbow and hearing some actually good noise releases from him and others, it's time to come back to this.
Welcome 2011! Three tracks from the production of Konchuuki. Oscillator synths and drone machines are thrown into the mix, a drum machine (Mach Rhythm Box RB-801) also appears on the second track. That one is a bop to be honest, although 27 minutes might be a little too ... read more
IT'S THE BLACK FLAG MOTHERFUCKER!!!
The black sheep of DIR EN GREY's discog (before TIW arrived). The band dropped their vkei looks completely at this point and went for a more "western" sound (probably because they wrote most of these during the 2006 Family Values Tour) - meaning we get something closer to metalcore. It's less experimental than previous albums, that doesn't mean they stopped doing ballads though!
Fuck it, bumping the score from 81 to 90, which ... read more
I'm gonna get this out right at the beginning, something about The Final just doesn't do it for me, no matter if it's the original or remake.
Withering to death. sees Diru continuing the sound from Vulgar and while not quite on its level, WtD is still a pretty damn good time. FFS, another 85? I don't know which one I like more, Macabre or this, it'll probably depend on which side I woke up.
Vulgar is the first album of Dir en grey's nu/alt metal era. This being DEG, it's obviously not straight-forward in that regard though, I think you'll get that by the time you get to Sajou no Uta.
It's funny how opinions change, I used to not be too keen on the first three albums, but now I think Gauze and Kisou are better than Vulgar. The album is still great, but it just doesn't feel as good when played from front to back as it used to. Maybe I'll think ... read more
Six Ugly is where Dir en grey's shift to alt metal truly takes place! Solid EP.
