SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 24
Is it just me or is this their most plunderphonic footwork release? Bangers and a few weirder tracks which certainly make the experience a bit worse.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 23
A weaker release but there are a few cool cuts. This is also around where they began doing more "technical" experiments with footwork. Most of those appear in EPs though. I'm too stupid to get what they're supposed to do here, so I won't bother explaining.
Also there's a pretty minimal 30 minute long track at the end, have fun with that one.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 22
I don't really know what to say, the cover and name explain everything perfectly. Less footworky than the voyage trilogy.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 21
"We are now recording a sweet soul disco album targeted to single women 20 to 40 years of age," ugh says. "I want it to play in cosmetic departments of shopping malls."
I'm certainly not the target demographic but I think it's a nice release, albeit one not as interesting as their other stuff. Don't expect crazy footwork bangers here.
Watch the music video for Push the button if you want to see them goof around: ... read more
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 20
The footwork gets stripped from The Shipboard Gardener, turning it into an even more beautiful experience. Miyuki Nakagaki sings and talks, and well, understanding Japanese would be helpful here. Apparently she explores the concept of the fate of a shipwreck's cargo beneath the sea. Also she became a member later but that's not important for now.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 19
What do you do after merging footwork with jazz? You merge it with trap. All the song titles have something to do with the kitchen, maybe it's because they cooked. Who makes a track called Clogged Drainage go fucking hard??
And they end the whole thing with a cover of Twist by Korn for some reason.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 18
The final part of the footwork voyage trilogy, El Día Que Me Quieras takes you to South America. Akin to some older albums, this one was inspired by a book - La Casa Verde by Mario Vargas Llosa. Like on the other ones there are jazz and funk elements here.
They really cooked with this trilogy.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 17
Same thing as before, though I would say that the track selection here is more solid.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 16
Rare/unreleased tracks from early-mid 2000s Satapo. If you need more of that give this a spin!
35 CD BOX / 6th CD / https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/chtc/album/856869-35-cd-box/
I might as well finish this box today having one release left.
Recorded as a prototype for Here, never used and released. The 21 minute long title track does some nice brain scratching, more varied than other tracks on Arrangement.
The rest is comprised of 3 Here Etudes and they aren't as cool as the title track but they're harsher and have some junk stuff thrown it.
35 CD BOX / 5th CD / https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/chtc/album/856869-35-cd-box/
Both the first and second tracks are rehearsal recording for the Dour Festival in Belgium. The third track is a slightly longer version of a protest song against dolphin fishing in Taiji contributed to the compilation Geluidpost.
This release is softer than the previous ones. The track Yono's Journey is full of drones & loops, slowly evolving. Dour Soundcheck 02 is much shorter and does a bit more ... read more
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 15
Music for people walking on the sea. Ethnic folk footwork?
Made for the listening room at UNYAZI Festival in South Africa and reworked into 9 tracks. I would call The Shipboard Gardener a sibling of the Footwork Voyage trilogy; they share sounds and this time they take on elements from traditional Asian and African music. Even with these footwork beats it's a much chiller experience, even beautiful at times.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 14
Dedicated to "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan".
The second of the footwork voyage trilogy, frEEwheelin' takes it's samples mostly from funk, gamelan and other stuff. These chops are getting crazy! Banger after banger.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 13
Oops, I missed an album. Some heavy hitters and some chiller tracks but it's the usual sound from this period.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 12
You thought Satapo were gonna do some straight-forward footwork for the rest of their existence? This is SPCS we're talking about, of course they're gonna change things up! Maiden Voyage is the first of the footwork voyage trilogy and this is where their experimentation with footwork begins.
On here the three vagabundos merge jazz and juke. It makes you want to chill with them on that rooftop and do some dancing.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 11
So what does footwork Satapo do for their next album? Something more akin to their earlier material! And they add more guitar playing by Frosen Pine.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 10
In 2011 Satapo did a complete change in sound, turning into a footwork project. They released a few EPs before an†i-buddhis♀ and it certainly is an improvement from those.
Look at Ugh's moves! (RIP)

SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 9
I'm skipping Arkhaio as it got a better review a while ago anyway.
Catholic Sunspot Apron is Arkhaio's upbeat sibling (they both released in 2010) and closes their plunderphonics era. If that one was an autumn album, this is a summer one.
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 8
Takusan no Ohanasan is one of the most fun releases from Satapo and in my opinion the most solid one from their plunderphonics era that isn't Arkhaiomelisidonophunikheratos.
It still has that Satapo chaoticness and batshit crazy range of samples but this time melded into something more """conventional""".
No Lisa Tani on this one, but you got three Catherine Ferroyer Blanchard remixes which are bops and even a beautiful ... read more
SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP RE-DIVE PART 7
This begins what I would call the "pop" part of their plunderphonics era, without this you wouldn't have your beloved Arkhaiomelisidonophunikheratos. Orochi Under the Straight Edge Leaves still has that Satapo sound but certainly is more relaxed than Zap Meemees. Sadly it's much weaker.
