I felt really transported when listening to this, like to some alternate folk universe very similar to but more elegant or enlightened than our own, or like some idyllic, sophisticated time in history that we wish to go back to but can't. The kind of album you want to keep closely to yourself after you discover it, lest it become discovered by other people and that much less "yours"
The mental image that Vines' voice raises in me is like low evening clouds shifting and giving sharp definition to the wandering path of many sun rays in their shade, in the air above the ground, untouchable and in the ether. With every new Vines release, new dimensions of her sound, personality and aesthetic are articulated, and this album is such a wonderful setting to exist in for a short time.
