Oh dang, masterpiece alert! Beautiful harp melodies, strangely melancholic, playful and childish atmosphere, A strangely unique voice and ridiculously complicated lyrics. Sadie still brings a year to my eyes. Peach, Plum, Pear still sounds like the musical abstraction of playing with your friends as a child. Let me be straight with you: This album is a masterpiece. You might as well just read my Ys Review. The only flaws in this album are it's enormous length (debatable) and the fact that Newsoms voice doesn't quite have the liveliness it had on Ys (which in turn works with the albums tone).
As perfect as Chamber Folk gets. In Joanna's refined yet young and playful voice, intricate lyrics, beautiful harp led melodies and colorful orchestration, Newsoms sophomore album will always be her most surprising masterpiece.
Easy-going lovesongs, beautiful melancholic atmosphere, awesome baroquey/chamber folky (??) melodies, a few electronic sprinkles here and there. Korkejians beautiful, haunting voice elevated the record from an over achieving summer morning album to one my favourite records this year.
5 killer tracks, amazing grooves, crushing guitars. A couple of relatively weak tracks keep it from reaching perfection.
