Psychedelic and synthn porn. My favorite ๐
Currents is yet another album that I've been missing out on. After hearing Kevin in the single with Thundercat, it got me interested in listening to his work, and what's a better place to start than with Currents. This album was such a treat to listen to. Everything on this album flows so smoothly, which is depicted on the album cover. The production and instrumentation on this album is dreamy, which is elevated by the pool of reverb Kevin adds. I appreciate the production even more considering that it was made by Kevin alone. Of course, he does need help with the mixing and all that, but each instrument that's played on this album is all played by him, which is insane to think about. Kevin's singing on this album is also great. Yes, the reverb does add this beauty to it, but I think even without the reverb, Kevin has an amazing singing voice. However, underneath all the amazing production and vocals is a story about a man and him experiencing heartbreak. I should've picked up on this theme just by looking at the tracklist, but I'm too stupid to figure things out. Throughout the album, Kevin is trying to let things happen or go with the flow. He's trying to look past the heartbreak and become a better man. He does in the end, but he continues to make the same mistakes, leading him into this cycle of finding love and experiencing heartbreak. But maybe he'll eventually find love and will permanently become a better man. Not a perfect man, but a better one. Overall, Currents is an album that creates the perfect mood for the theme of the album, feeling paranoid but trying your best to go with the flow. With dreamy production but heartbreaking, Currents is an amazing breakup album.
