Imagine being so lazy to name your album that you just name it after the number of tracks that are in the album ๐
13 is the album that got me interested in listening to Blur. I've seen many people talk about it and how amazing it is, which made me curious and made me want to check out the album. Thank God I listened to this album. 13 has a lot of the things I love about music. It has the grooviness that makes me bop my head aggressively. It has experimental moments that just leave you speechless. It has the mellow moments that make you cry. What I'm trying to say is that 13 offers so many amazing musical moments that pull you in. It's an album that isn't afraid to change up the pace or mood of the album. Just look at the first 2 tracks as an example. The album starts with a "tender" song that is sonically and lyrically uplifting and loving. It's an amazing song that puts a smile on your face. Then, when the track ends, we immediately get to a heavy and distorted ass track that is extremely aggressive. The track lyrically isn't as positive as the first track. In fact, it's kind of dark. The track seems to talk about an ex convict that was just released from prison, but because so many years have passed since being in prison, he is lost and confused. It's a great contractor from Tender, which was a song about loving and being tender with one another. This whole just switches from left to right constantly, but Blur does it in an interesting and unique way that just makes the album more amazing and exciting to listen to. The instrumentation is also the reason why this album is amazing. Blur know how to make an aggressive track sound angry, and they know how to make a slow track sound sad. Pretty much every track on this album sounds different from each other. While Mellow Song is an acoustic ballad, Trailerpark has these hip-hop type drums. Blur also knows how to create stand-out lyrics. While there isn't a theme that runs through the entire album, Blur writes lyrics that match well with the mood of the track. There's a new moment on the album where everything collides with each other. Everything just overall meshes well together, and it makes for an amazing album that is unique and experimental but also listenable and familiar.
