YUNGBLUD - Idols
97

This is what I'd consider Yungblud's best album, all the songs are so well written and go together! Especially at the ending, with the connection of War, Idols pt II, and Supermoon all flowing together to create almost one big song! I remember reading on Apple Music his descriptions on each of the songs in the album, each seemed to have such a sentimental meaning to him which I feel is expressed through his emotions and his large vocal range. Incredible album!

Watermelon Sugar- Harry Styles Song Rating

One of the biggest reasons I don’t enjoy this track is because of the repetition that doesn’t seem to be really appealing for me. I think the chorus is especially weak coming from most of Harry’s catalog, and the lyrics seem vague and uninteresting, it would be much better if he told a particular story. His voice throughout the song seems somewhat bored and unemotional, the tone of his voice seems to stay monotone throughout the ... read more

Can’t Stop- Maroon 5 Song Rating

One of the most unique traits about this song is the riff at the beginning. It sets a precedent for a groovy track, and gets you in the mood. The lyrics express love for his partner and he can’t stop thinking about her. Overall, it’s a repetitive song that I don’t think is meant to have a lot of thought. “I can’t stop thinking about you, I can’t stop thinking about you.” But I adore the groove and think it works ... read more

The Emperor- Yungblud Song Rating

I really enjoy this song because of how completely overwhelming it is. The crazy siren sound effects in the background, the vocals going all over the place (all day all day all day all day all day.. Repeat, repeat), and the actual point of the song compliments the overwhelming feeling of it all. I say this because it seems to be about being on some sort of high on life, our minds are typically all over the place when feeling high on life, and that’s ... read more

Ok Orchestra- AJR Full Rating

This album is a fantastic experience of orchestral and sample-based music that really pulls on my small violin strings. I think this album has many different instruments throughout that fit with the overall theme.”Christmas in June,” starts off with violin and leads into more percussion sounding instruments. I feel each song has an instrument or electrical noise that is prevalent throughout each song, and in turn I feel this replaces the bass. ... read more

Build For Blame, Laced With Shame- Get Scared Full Rating

This whole album holds a lot of meaning to me, which is one of the reasons I rank it so highly. Apart from Joel being the kind of person he is, I do think his vocals are incredibly emotional and passionate. “This is what it TAKES to fake a smile and say..” I can tell how when his voice breaks the passion that goes into it. “At the end of the day, you think to yourself, ‘my body is a product being sold on a ... read more

Gods of Violence- Kreator Full Rating

I love how this album makes more catchy, chorus parts while also remaining heavy. The riffs are more distorted throughout, and the vocalist remains aggressive in his tone. I love the build-up in some of the songs throughout the album, one of them is, “Death Becomes my Light.” This starts off with the vocalist having a more of an emotional tone, and following into the heavier, raw emotion sound that Kreator typically has. I enjoy the lead ... read more

666, World Divided- Kreator Song Rating

The song that got me into Kreator is thanks to this song, I think a big reason for this is the unique, quick-paced riff. The riff isn’t distorted like many others, it has this crisp, more audible sound that makes it addicting and enjoyable to listen to. When first listening to this riff, I remember enjoying the vocals and aggression that is present in his voice. Something I also noticed was how the bass allines with the guitar which makes me find ... read more

Kreator - Outcast

Outcast- Kreator Full Rating

This album is experimental with different tempos throughout their songs. “Outcast,” is considered their heaviest, slowest song made as a whole. It captures a raw rhythm guitar with distortion matching the vocals as well. However, “Phobia,” is much quicker and fast-paced. Throughout the album, there are many songs which show the slower, more raw sounding along with quicker and higher energy. One of the reasons I think this album works ... read more

Master of Puppets- Metallica Full Rating

I think this album is so respectable for being influential on many modern-day artists for their use of a heavier, more gritty style. I do also believe that since these modern-day bands have gotten more popular, they have access to different techniques that weren't around back when Metallica started as a whole. Let’s take “Leper Messiah” for example, this song uses a gritty riff with the use of lots of distortion for a better, ... read more

Yungblud- Self Titled Full Rating

I feel like this album holds a lot of different meanings opposed to one theme which I feel makes this album unique and interesting. “Memories,” is about having trauma and the many disadvantages that it holds. Not all of the songs on this album are about this though, many of the songs on this album hold a different meaning. Like “Cruel Kids,” is about not wanting to fit in with the many horrendous people that do exist. These songs ... read more

The Maybe Man- AJR Full Rating

The Maybe Man has a lot of personal meaning that I believe is respectable to sing about. For instance, “God is Really Real,” is a real life traumatic situation that occurred with the brothers’ dad. “The Maybe Man,” is not only about finding yourself, but more indepthly about how life wouldn’t be any better being someone else since everyone has their own stress and life struggles. The other songs throughout the album speak ... read more

Nightmare- A7X Full Rating

A big reason for me to rate this album as high as I did is because of the consistency throughout the album, each song sounds like its own unique melody whilst also having a unique sound that belongs to the album as a whole. The guitar for both rhythm and lead match up with the drums and the vocals. The vocals are interesting to listen to because of the raw emotion that comes with the heavier, grittier parts such as “Tonight the World Dies,” it starts ... read more
