RE-Review:
This is Staind before they became more radio friendly post-grunge. This is pretty much nu-metal and alternative metal.
I enjoy almost all the choruses. "Home" remains the most impactful track that I've known from this record since discovering it in high school ten years ago. Sometimes the riffs are stale and a little too repetitive. I think Aaron Lewis can sing well, his screams are decent too.
New Notes: I didn't realize how intense the riffs sounded, there are moments the guitars are so down-tuned I thought maybe they were getting into Drop F. There's also some interesting and raw dissonance on occasion in the guitar work and the bass guitar.
"Home" and the hidden track "Excess Baggage" are truly beautiful and filled with sorrow, the honest pits of depression come out in full force. I think "Excess Baggage" also is Aaron Lewis talking to addiction as a personified individual, and it leaves a brutal resonation with me.
