Andy Lee doesn't miss. Easily the finest HM2-worship around and paired perfectly with virtuoso shredding.
Far more fun and catchy than their previous releases with the same weirdness that makes them unique. Perhaps a little slow in places, but a strong statement from a band that's been around for ages.
Weirdly enough, this record serves as a statement of intent for Crypt of Blades and Side Quest. The material on Adventure One lacks the aggression of aforementioned releases, but trades it for ambience and grandiosity. That being said, the record is overflowing with hooks and solid choruses.
Favorite track: The Allure of Silver
Soaring, epic, melodic black metal with memorable riffs that have been stuck in my head since the first spin.
Favorite track: Pohjolan Tytär
Solid black metal. Nothing mind blowing, but nothing offensive either.
A natural continuation of the Pentecost sound, and very nearly as good with only a couple of songs dragging it below it's predecessor.
Best Track: The Fire's Control
Wytch Hazel at their absolute peak. Massive choruses, scorching solos, and remarkable consistency. Pentecost also features a notable upgrade in production from the first two records.
Favorite Track: I Am Redeemed
Perhaps the weakest release in the WH discography, but still featuring some solid tracks. I find this record a bit boring overall, but the signature WH catchiness is undeniably present on tracks like Still We Fight and Slaves to Righteousness
Favorite track: See My Demons
A strong statement of purpose with occasional flashes of brilliance that would come to define Wytch Hazel's future releases. The middle tracks Psalm and Prelude aren't as strong as the beginning or end of the album, but the record is relatively consistent and concise.
Favorite track: We Will Be Strong
I put this on for my non-metalhead partner after explaining the concept, and her first reaction was "Why does this rip?"
Big, dumb, power metal choruses abound. Nothing particularly memorable, but solid overall.
Favorite track: Volarad
Scorching black metal with a great sense of mood and melody.
Favorite track: The Taste of Ash
Angel Sword does what they do best; streetwise heavy metal with a strong emphasis on melody and catchy choruses. They remain focused on mid-tempo bangers while ramping up the pace for tracks like Vigilantes. Much like every Angel Sword release, this record will have a permanent place on my turntable.
Favorite track: Weekend Warrior
Concise, catchy as hell, and possessing immaculate vibes. Somehow each song manages to exceed the sum of it's parts. Consistency is the name of the game, and the track order feels very natural with climactic finish.
