Wonderfully atmospheric. Some great production - I get a nice Tame Impala vibe on the drums for a few tracks. Some great songwriting - a throwback to Lior in some of the chord progressions.

It’s nice, but honestly nothing I find especially exciting or fresh… I am a bit confused by her popularity. But good on her!

Crowder has always been a most dexterous creative, able to turn his hand adroitly to any genre. Where that has been timeless and spiritual in the past (bluegrass a la A Collision), within this work it is the sound de jour, an occasionally cringe-inducing reach for cliche and the commons.

There are some great highs. And there are some awkward lows. A true mixed bag.

As a father, thank you for this public service.

- It took a good 6 or 7 listens for this to settle with me. It was good enough for me to be content having those listens, but nothing especially ... read more

It’s great because Sufjan is great. (That’s not a slight on Angelo; I just don’t know his stuff to recognize his contribution). But it does seem like a reversion to the past for Sufjan. The Ascension and Carrie and Lowell in particular seemed to push his innate mood and musicality in new directions. This work just seems to revel in a comfort zone.

I don’t mind that; it’s still great. But it’s not a classic,
I don’t think. And perhaps only because ... read more
