I must say, it feels like a different era for the $boys. This album is so interesting in what it provides. I actually think it’s not as good as song me a lullaby, but it is definitely worth the listen. The consistency that is held with sing me a lullaby will not be found here, but it’s honestly for the best. This album is definitely solid, especially upfront for a 10 track project. It’s ruby and scrim dishing out what they do best track after track. However, it just doesn’t stack up with the rest of their recent releases when it comes to memorability. There isn’t really many big moments on this record, and the climax doesn’t really come until the last track. It’s just okay, and I think ghais knows that. What I can appreciate is that ghais really never does the same thing twice, even if it’s at the expense of a bad review or two.
American Heart is really awful, but mostly just because it’s insanely predictable and boring. I feel like even a younger me, who liked imagine dragons and ajr would find this album so uninteresting. It’s just offensive to artists who care about the music above anything. This album is not over-hated, but Boone himself probably is. He seems like a nice guy but his album is the equivalent to eating 10 saltines in a row.
