Takeoff - The Last Rocket
NR

Way better than Quavo Huncho, and definitely surpasses expectations. The first half is significantly more dynamic than the second, which takes a more repetitive, familiar style that is signature to the Migos. Takeoff's bars are on point and he doesn't suffer from a lack of many features. Nice sample usage but feels a bit overdone.

Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future & James Blake - King's Dead

The song has a real deep and thumping feel, and it helps to carry the song from Kendrick, to Jay Rock, to Future. While the end of Future's verse is certainly off and represents the weakest part of the song, it quickly recovers as Jay Rock re-enters and saves the track. Not perfect, but a well produced soundtrack single.

Kendrick Lamar & SZA - All The Stars

Kendrick and SZA perfectly balance one another, and have a clear chemistry that resonates throughout the songs entirety. The production is perfect and the instrumental has a real soundtrack type of feel that bridges the gap between song and film. It's what modern rap should sound like, and it achieves its purpose entirely.

Bruno Mars - Finesse (Remix)

Cardi's verse is fine, but it sounds quickly done/ rushed and mostly ad-libbed. Bruno works his magic as per usual and carries the song, however some mixed vocals with Cardi towards the end of the song help to enhance the well-blended remix experience.

Migos - Culture II

Holds up sufficiently well to Culture I, but doesn't do anything new and is certainly not better. Very well produced but the songs tend to sound similar and formulaic, aside from a few tracks towards the end of the album that take on a jazz vibe. Features carry the best songs but there are some standout solo songs mixed in there. Overall a fine sequel, but could have showed more evolution from last year's album or at least incorporated some new/ standout style elements.
