Graduation

So my old review was good but I don’t think a joke review really fits an album that’s so important to me and my experience with music. This was the album that got me into hip hop. Before listening I was pretty much strictly a rock fan that liked a few R&B albums. I had tried to listen to a few hip hop albums like Tpab and Atrocity Exhibition (someone recommended it to me) but the genre never really interested me as a whole. I was always pretty much the only person in my friend group who didn’t really like hip hop. The majority of my friends really liked Kanye and I had heard a lot about this album in particular. Whenever someone brought up the crazy shit Kanye was saying someone would always say “he made graduation though”. So one night, on a whim, I decided to just listen to it. What surprised me is that I ended up really enjoying it. It ended up opening a gateway for me to enjoy more hip hop albums. I think the first two I listened to after were Mbdtf and a Relisten to Tpab. Both of them immediately jumped to my top ten albums of all time and are still in my top 5 hip hop albums, and they probably wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for graduation. This is up there with In Rainbows and Lysflath as one of the most important albums to me for that reason. Even if it isn’t my favorite Kanye album it is still a fantastic listening experience and is really just one of the most pure fun albums out there. I’d personally give it a 93 (95 with bittersweet poetry) because drunk and hot girls and Barry bonds do bring the tracklist down a bit for me but it does have some of my favorite songs of all time like good morning and bittersweet poetry (which is my favorite on the album). I don’t think I would even be on this site if it weren’t for this album so it really does mean a lot to me. I’m about to hit 400 followers so consider this the 400 follower special.
