FAVORITE TRACK: Running Towards a Place

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Dying Breed

This is what that new Neon Trees album should've sounded like.

This one is weird. The instrumentals on this are really great and some of the best pop-rock production I've heard in a really long time. But that's pretty much it. I feel like there's nothing memorable beyond the instrumentals with the exception of tracks like My Own Soul's Warning and Running Towards a Place, as both those tracks have amazing vocals to add to it. When Dreams Run Dry is the best Brandon Flowers has sounded.... ever. Every other song is pretty bland in the lyrical area and a majority are weak in their vocal area as well. But is the amazing production enough to carry this project out?

Maybe??

Like I want to not like this record. But I've had this issue in the past with Killers' projects (post Sam's Town). The production is beautiful but everything else fades or isn't good. It's also very weird how Weyes Blood managed to ruin a song- which is a sentence I thought I would never say. Listening through this album twice now, I don't mind hearing it. It's easy on the ears but I feel like I couldn't recall how one song goes even if my life depended on it. So does it being amazingly produced and sung great on majority of tracks but having nothing major to really callback to still make this album good?

In my book, yeah, I think. I'm sure my thoughts will change on this over time but I think I like this despite it not being the most memorable project of the year.
