I became a fan of this band in 2022 after seeing them at St. Vitus, a Brooklyn bar that no longer exists. Over the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of calling Lip Critic not only one of my favorite bands, but some of thee members my friends, too. the nicest guys in da whole wide world making music that sounds like nothing else to ever exist. i wrote about this album and the time i broke my tooth at one of their show for the alternative that you can read here: ... read more
I recently was given the opportunity to write about this album for work. I really hate writing my more formal pieces in the first person or even about my own experiences, this was the first time I was ever really able to inject a part of myself and my experiences growing up queer and confused in my writing. It was really scary to write and really scary to share with others, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out. I hope you’re able to read it :) ... read more

close enough. welcome back, black country new road.
it has always been my dream to be able to write about gooners and crypto bros in a publication and i got to do that this year because of viagra boys thank you viagra boys thank you sweden…..
More interesting than the other Blood At Night comp, thanks to the features of all the members on this. Stin is super talented with these tapes, and, as I mentioned in my other review, they really add an edge to Chat Pile's sound, making it scarier, but it's not something worth going back to. This one, though, has some killer instrumentals, amazing guitar and drums on Lost 2 and 3.
Chat Pile, they'll never make me hate you, but I wouldn't put this on regularly. I think what the band is doing with tapes and tape loops on their albums (especially on Cool World and In the Earth Again) is extremely unique and adds a terrifying, uncomfortable quality to their already-horrific sound, but the tapes on their own aren't that interesting. Blood At Night is worth a listen at least once, but if you're not a fan of ambient noise, maybe sit this one out.
I prefer this live album's setlist over the one used on the Roadburn live album, but Roadburn is definitely cleaner and crisper with its sound.

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Islands of Men
"I should burn in Hell but I don't deserve this."
I dated a guy who took what feels like everything from me. He stole my trust, he stole my love, he stole my kindness, but I think the worst part is he stole a lot of music from me. There are so many bands now that I once loved who I feel like I can't bring myself to listen to now without feeling sick to my stomach, thinking about past choices I've ... read more

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Go Get Dressed
You could give me nine days and I don't think I could come up with a cooler sound a group of 22-year-old girls could be making
FAVORITE TRACK: Sauvignon Blanc
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Porcelana
There are a few songs on here that are too short for their own good, or they end right as the best part of the track is starting (La Yugular), but LUX just confirms Rosalía is our most talented pop star. There's such a graceful intelligence in the production of this record that works in tandem with Rosalía's ever-changing vocal sound — it really allows her to effortlessly shift the song's ... read more

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Guillotine
Sometimes, you gotta throw your hair in a messy bun, drink a monster energy, put on some Exmilitary and handle it....
i find the lead singer of chat pile so unbelievably attractive like i want to hurt myself when i think about it kind of attraction but it’s really hard to explain to my friends i always end up being like well if you saw him live you’d get it. and although this isn’t the same as being in the room, it’s quite close. i find raygun’s tangents about directors and movies so endearing so im glad to be able to send people this now
FAVORITE TRACK: iPod Touch
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: It’s You
The greatest love story of our time. A beautifully earnest album about what it’s like to love a partner through everything—even if the partner in question is an electronic box. Cuz no one in the world knows me better!!!
FAVORITE TRACK: infinyte
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Red Eyes & Blue Hearts
Significantlly weaker than They Left Me with a Gun, but that line "I can't hang 'round bro no more, he movin' weird 'round bitches / I'm so antisocial, my bitch think that I'm autistic" is the best line of the year. Like I had to do the Flex "Otis" rewind and bomb explosion sound after I heard it.
i took my uncle to see lip critic and he fucking died...love this band
FAVORITE TRACK: Stripper Song
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: No Strings
i’ve been rooting for PT since i first heard BOY ANONYMOUS. Their energy is palpable and it’s almost impossible to have a bad time listening to their stuff—but this latest EP is the duo’s most fun release to date. The synthpop and rock angle they bring to They Left Me With A Gun is so much fun and definitely the band’s best execution of this sound this far in their careers. This summer is gonna sound ... read more
FAVORITE TRACK: Stepping On A Rake
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Bye Bye Snake Eyes
The idea of Gareth Liddiard writing Stepping On A Rake while the love of his life and bassist of his band has cancer and sings background vocals on the song has been making my heart hurt so much, I threw up and cried and then passed out from crying. I wish Fiona Kitschin nothing but the best, and I'm glad she's in a healthy enough spot to be touring.
