Snõõper - Worldwide

Firstly, how did they get the rights to do a Come Together cover lmao

Compared to their first album this one drops a bit of the raw energy and noise for more mature songwriting and more fleshed out ideas, which has its positives and negatives. I think so much of my love for Snõõper’s first album was driven by their insane energy, which drops a bit on this album. Specifically the vocals feel more flat and the guitars not quite as sharp. However the songs feel a lot more ... read more

A solid group of leftovers from the Rose Main Reading Room sessions. I still feel like they are at their best with songs that have a bit more tempo and energy as opposed to their slower, more indie folk inspired songs. Standouts for me were Venus in Nadir, Seek and Destroy, and Believer. Specifically the lush instrumentation and overall instrument mix on Believer was great.

Production is super interesting and unique throughout the album. For me the downsides stem from a lack of consistent sound. Some songs sound like these experimental club bangers with touches of middle eastern strings/drums while other songs completely forego most any rhythm at all and are more ambient. Just resulted in me feeling a bit confused on the inclusion of some songs and the general pacing, but overall a super impressive debut for one of the most unique DJ’s in NYC rn. Loved the ... read more

Turnstile - NEVER ENOUGH

Unfortunately just kind of feels like a half baked Glow On. This album invests more into the dreamy ambient soundscapes which were done so sparingly on Glow On, to a much better effect in my opinion. I think Turnstile are still at their best when they are making their trademark sludgy, melodic post-hardcore which can be found a lot on this album, just not as much as I would like to see. Highlights for me were Sole and Sunshower. Also wtf is up with the club music at the end of Look Out for Me ... read more

Møster! - Dust Breathing

Super interesting album if you're into jazz-fusion or post-rock. The first track is the biggest highlight for me. It sounds like a jam band doing a rendition of something off of Miles Davis's Get Up With It. Honestly the rest of the tracks blend together a bit for me but the highs on this album are incredibly high. Part 2 of the trilogy on the back end, the fifth track, I also enjoy a fair bit due to its progression. The sax playing is otherworldly throughout the album. Definitely ... read more
